Mendenhall Glacier & Juneau City Tour

This tour is not available to book for the 2019 season

How about a custom tour from a local guide in the capital city of Alaska to kick things off? This deluxe Juneau City & Mendenhall Glacier Tour is one of the most popular options and hits the city's main attractions up-close by motorcoach.

The fully narrated tour guided by a local driver begins in downtown Juneau and offers an excellent history of the state's capital city and its scenic attractions, including the famous Mendenhall Glacier.

Starting in the famous streets of historic downtown Juneau, the tour will take you right by the Governor's Mansion, Alaska state Capitol, and world famous Red Dog Saloon. You will enjoy narration and information as you roll past the city's highlights. From there you will drive along the scenic Gastineau Channel and Wildlife Refuge to the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center.

Take in the massive and mighty Mendenhall Glacier from afar and see its rugged crevasses and a vibrant blue color shimmer on a sunny day. At the glacier you will have approximately 45 minutes to explore the walking paths and the U.S. Forest Service Visitor Information Center. This area is located roughly 3/4 of a mile from the face of the glacier and offers excellent views of the Mendenhall Valley. Make sure you have your camera ready to snap photos of the famous black bears feeding on wild Alaskan salmon as you walk along raised trails over salmon spawning streams; it's truly a memorable experience!

The tour comes to an end with a stop at famous Douglas Island, a historic mining community, for photo opportunities and panoramic views across the ocean to downtown Juneau. You will then arrive back to the main cruise ship terminal, close to shopping or your ship, whichever you choose to end your day! Included: Admission to the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor's Center.

Please note: Unable to accommodate wheelchair bound guests as there are no lifts available on the motorcoach.

Included: Admission to the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor's Center.

Sep 2018 - Michele R.

The guide/bus driver was great and very knowledgable. Perhaps could have made a few more photo stops (the whale, the lookout), but I also appreciated the extra time given at the glacier to walk to the waterfall. I liked the independence of this tour rather than being fully escorted. The bus was a little old and could do with a refresh.

Sep 2018 - Judith S.

Great tour of town and all the history of Juneau. Our guide was excellent showing us lots of interesting stuff about the town. The glacier time was just right. Had time to explore as well as visit the centre and see a film and hear a talk by ranger and go look for salmon and wildlife

WE had a great time on this tour. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and helpful.

Jun 2018 - Patricia G.

Great experience we even got to see 3 black bears. Unfortunately we did not get to walk up to the glacier because of the bears. The Forester Rangers were very careful to keep the people away from the animals.

May 2018 - Ruth H.

We had a very knowledgeable guide in Juneau. He shared some interesting local personal stories as he is a long time Juneau resident. Mendehall Glacier was amazing to see.

Oct 2017 - Ed V.

It was a very interesting way to get a small review of what the city was like. Our tour guide was very good - made it interesting, and had lots of stories. He made it fun, and we knew what the expectations were for getting back on the bus to return. Would recommend this to others.

Sep 2017 - Jenny W.

Good tour and tour guide, I believe his name was Jim.

Sep 2017 - Diana M.

Mendenhall Glacier through the telescope was awesome. The Centre was nice and warm and full of interesting information. Our driver had a very good knowledge of the Juneau area, a pleasant young man

Sep 2017 - Angela C.

Good itinerary. Very confusing since the confirmation paper said meet at 2:30pm but there was no one at the location on time representing the company. We have to ask several other tour companies who told us what to look for but the company rep did not arrive until almost 3pm. Then he told us that our friends who are also booked on the same tour that their names were not on his list. We had to leave our friends who they put on a later tour. Very disappointing. Once we start the tour, the Guide is knowledgeable and we learned from him. Tour is worth the money charged.

Sep 2017 - Perthena L.

Could have used a little more time on the city tour. The driver Wayne was amazing!! The Mendenhall Glacier tour was a little too short to complete the trail to the Glacier.

Sep 2017 - William C.

Tour was interesting ,plus guide was a lot of fun. Beautiful views.

Sep 2017 - Watts W.

We had a fantastic tour guide named Wayne, a born and bred local, even though it was raining for most of the tour it was very good.

Sep 2017 - RR M.

Couldn't get close to the glacier. The tour guide/driver was superb.

Aug 2017 - Diane I.

We enjoyed the tour around the city of Juneau and to the Mendenhall Glacier. Our guide was a humorous young man who told us about the city and some of the wildlife and local info as well as telling fun jokes.

Aug 2017 - Joe V.

Great esperience only hurry cause you don't have much time .

Aug 2017 - Margaret M.

We had a very brief, half-day stop at Juneau, which was too bad because there are so many things to do/see there. The Mendenhall glacier and Nugget Falls are amazing and the visitor centre was very informative. They sure could use additional restrooms though lol! One suggestion would be to stop first at the Glacier information centre and then do the city drive-through. You want to have as much time as possible at the glacier/falls.

Aug 2017 - Winston D.

A very scenic tour.

Aug 2017 - Faye S.

Great tour with an informative guide. Worth every penny a must see!

Jul 2017 - Carolyn E.

A beautiful place to visit. We would have liked to have more time at the destination as we had to choose between visiting three areas, one of the two view points or the Information Centre. There was not enough time to see all three places which we would have liked to do.

Jul 2017 - Nicholas N.

Lots of fun and great sights.

Jul 2017 - William N.

Was a bit of a letdown after viewing many glaciers from the cruise ship. The film was interesting.

Jul 2017 - Chirag D.

Great tour. Guide was friendly and knowledgeable. Took us to wonderful places. One improvement is to slightly increase tour time so we get chance to see both nugget falls and visitor center.

Jul 2017 - Robert F.

We had a guide that was informative and likable.

Jul 2017 - Ken K.

The bus driver/tour guide was very knowledgeable about Juneau and Alaska. He explained sites and little known facts as we traveled thru the city and to the Glacier. Even though it rained most of the day, the tour was worth it. My only complaint would be I wish we had more time at the glacier so we all could walk to the water falls and not just the fast walkers.

Jul 2017 - Jeffrey R.

Tour was good. The tour guide was funny and knowledgable of the Juneau area. The glacier was amazing to see in person!

Jun 2017 - Alan H.

Our driver was very friendly with a wry sense of humour, he was also well informed giving us an excellent overview of Juneau and it's history together with some overview of Alaskan politics and life. There was enough time left at the glacier to walk to the waterfall and get a close view of the glacier's face. We were also lucky to see a bear and it's cub walking near to the road followed by another crossing the entry road to the visitor centre.

Jun 2017 - Susan H.

Great excursion. Well informed guide. Would highly recommend

Jun 2017 - Denise J.

Had enough time to walk towards the falls and see the glacier up close

Jun 2017 - Debra R.

Loved this excursion

Jun 2017 - Theresa W.

Jun 2017 - Rabindra K.

Highly recommend this tour if you don't want to spend hundreds of $ on the "experience" tours (dog-sledding, helicopter etc). The Mendenhall glacier and the awesome waterfall beside it, are a sight to behold. Loved our tour guide Wayne. He was witty, told us a lot about Juneau and the other sights and seemed really enthusiastic about being a guide.

Jun 2017 - Sheila H.

Great guide! Great tour...and plenty of time to make it to Nugget Falls and back..really enjoyed it!

Jun 2017 - Prashant N.

Excellent narration and very informative guide

Jun 2017 - Christopher D.

Good quick tour. Glacier is awesome and it gives you about hour there to explore. Tour guide was great and informative

Jun 2017 - Doug R.

This was a great tour. We enjoyed it very much. I can't remember the young lady's name but she was pleasant and had energy to answer all of our questions. I would recommend this tour.

Jun 2017 - Mark C.

We really enjoyed the tour provided by Wayne. He was born/raised in Juneau so his knowledge of the area was very valuable. Great sense of humor also. He kept us all engaged.

Jun 2017 - Mary G.

Except for the weather the excursion was very good .A careful well informed driver-guide.The only thing I would change would be to make a stop or two for the downtown part of the tour.

Jun 2017 - Russell T.

Excellent tour and tour guide. A little more time at the Glacier would be good.

Jun 2017 - Ralph W.

Our tour guide was Walter, a native Alaskan who was very informative and had a great sense of humor. We learned that bears do not eat hatchery salmon! Who would have thought bears would not eat salmon of any kind? We also learned that people who feed bears cause them to be 'put down' because they simply could not follow the rules prohibiting feeding the bears! Walter was such an informative guide and we enjoyed our tour with him very much.

Jun 2017 - Marion S.

Mendenhall glacier a lovely location

May 2017 - Joel A.

great experience

May 2017 - Elizabeth B.

Glacier was a amazing. It would have been good if we have more time to spend to hike to the waterfalls and visit the Visitor Center

May 2017 - Jeffrey B.

Walter our tour guide was so informative and interesting.Telling us stories about local life, best places to eat etc.The glacier was great perhaps another half hour there so we could have walked to the waterfall would have made it perfect.

May 2017 - Elsie B.

Very nice staff. Enjoyed the tour

May 2017 - Judith P.

Very easy to find the rep in such a busy spot. Tour driver was personable, knowledgeable and prompt which was much appreciated as we had our 3 year old grandchild with us and it scheduled for her regular nap time.

Oct 2016 - John H.

Great tour (must do the walk to the waterfall) and excellent tour guide.

Sep 2016 - Jaclyn B.

Great tour! Tour guide was awesome defiantly worth the price!

Sep 2016 - Cassie B.

A really enjoyable tour, but a bit longer at the glacier would have been better as we did not have time to walk up to the waterfall which was a shame. Cassie & Mike

Sep 2016 - Michael M.

Good transportation and bus guide, good excursion, too short of time at glacier - could have used 30 - 45 minutes more. Not enough time to view the visitor center presentation and walk to the glacier.

Sep 2016 - Jane L.

Enjoyed our tour guide and the trip very much. Lots of information and the Mendenhall Glacier was a sight to see. Well worth the money.

Sep 2016 - Tara O.

Excellent! Highly recommend to get a run down of the city.

Sep 2016 - NEIL A.

Mike was everything you want in a tour guide: witty, succinct, candid, polite, punctual. The tour was interesting and neither too long nor too short. He advised us on a great place for lunch at the end.

Aug 2016 - Betty B.

Bus driver was unfriendly and short with his passengers. He could have been more informative along the route.

Aug 2016 - JoAnn M F.

As a party of 8, it's not always easy to find tours and attractions that please everyone. That said, I can happily say that we all enjoyed this tour! Our driver/guide, Wayne, kept us informed and entertained with facts and stories of his growing up in the area. The Mendenhall Glacier is just magnificent. Because the weather was so hot, the trek to Nugget Falls was arduous, but well worth it! How often can you stand at the base of a beautiful waterfall.........and, get a closer view of the Glacier? Though, I would have liked a bit more time there. We definitely recommend this tour!

Aug 2016 - Robyn M.

Very good.

Aug 2016 - Greg S.

We booked this tour online from Australia as we were arriving in Alaska on a cruise ship. We were not disappointed. Great tour guide, lots of really interesting local info and very entertaining. Cost was around 50% of ship tour.

Aug 2016 - Nikhil A.

Amazing glacier views and comfortable tour.

Aug 2016 - Myrna S.

Breathtaking !

Jul 2016 - Moira H.

Excellent city Tour of Juneau & visit to the Mendenhall Glacier. A must see. Our tour guide/driver was fantastic. So knowledgeable of the area & a real local who loved her city. It was a bit difficult to find the tour person to begin with as I didn't realise that it wouldn't say Alaska Shore Excursions, but once we got that sorted out the rest was fantastic.

Jun 2016 - Linda D.

Good value.

Jun 2016 - Candessa P.

Nice little trip, informative and entertaining.

Jun 2016 - Sandra T.

Absolutely amazing! Loved the guide and everything about this!

May 2016 - Lynne M.

The driver/guide, Cordova, was wonderful - very personable and informative BUT the time at the glacier was not long enough for us to walk to the waterfall for a close-up view of the glacier and for the visitor's center as well - we were barely able to walk in due to crowds much less see the movie or any of the displays.

May 2016 - Roberto B.

It was terrific. We were picked up on time and the tour was really enjoyable and priced very reasonable.

May 2016 - Mark R.

Nice tour of the city and easy and inexpensive way to see a glacier and waterfall up close.
