There is a little bit of everything for everyone in Skagway. If you’re looking to get outdoors to enjoy wildlife, our Glacier Point Wilderness Safari is a great option. If you’re looking to learn a little history and enjoy a scenic ride in a vintage passenger train car, then the White Pass Railroad Summit Excursion is the perfect Skagway tour for your party. The nearby Denver Glacier is only accessible via helicopter if you would like to tour Skagway’s glacier and possibly enjoy a glacier, helicopter, or dog sledding demonstration. To experience the natural wonders around Skagway, take one of our many trips up into the Yukon Territory of Canada for some of the most magnificent sightseeing Alaska has to offer.
Known as a gateway town to the Yukon gold rush, it was on August 17, 1896, when gold was first discovered 600 miles from Skagway in the Klondike region of Canada’s Yukon Territory. The following year, hundreds of gold-seekers flocked to Skagway to begin their journeys North. The path the miners took to seek gold would eventually create the foundation for one of the most popular Skagway shore excursions – the White Pass Yukon Railroad Summit Excursion.
By 1898, Skagway’s population had boomed to 8,000. Construction began on the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad, and the infamous con man “Soapy” Smith, who swindled prospectors and controlled a comprehensive spy network, was shot and killed.
With the completion of the railroad in 1900 and the once-prosperous gold rush nearly over, Skagway was formally incorporated as a city in 2007, when it was re-incorporated as a borough.
The current population of Skagway fluctuates right around 1,000 residents. During the summer tourist season, the first-class borough sees more than 1 million visitors looking to enjoy the great outdoors, history, and natural wonders through the many amazing shore excursions and tours Skagway offers.
The Skagway White Pass Railroad Summit Excursion & Train Tour was simply an amazing way to experience and appreciate Alaska. The views and the scenery are incredible, and the ride inside the train is extremely comfortable. I loved being able to step out of the car and stand on the platform in the open air to get a true sense of the area's majesty. The White Pass excursion was a highlight of my time in Alaska.

Exceptional experience. They were organized, on time, and super safe. This was the highlight of my Alaskan trip. Though expensive, this is a once-in-a-lifetime type of experience. Being on the glacier was like being in another world. Amazing!

We loved our musher camp and sled dog adventure. Excited when we arrived and the dogs were barking for us to join them on the sled that was being driven by their musher who narrated while zipping along the trails. Fun to meet the puppies and interact with them after the trail ride.
James P on the Skagway Musher's Camp and Sled Dog Adventure
This was such an amazing excursion! The captain was so hospitable and really made our experience so great. We saw eagles, kingfishers, seals, and waterfalls. The boat was so relaxing, whether you were out in front, in the covered area, or down below. I highly recommend this trip and plan to book it again the next time we visit Skagway.
