Juneau Helicopter Glacier Ice Climbing Tour

Excursion Overview

Helicopter Ice Climbing Adventure on the Juneau Icefield

The Helicopter Glacier Ice Climbing Tour offers an unforgettable two-hour adventure on the Juneau Icefield, one of Southeast Alaska’s most iconic natural landmarks. Guests begin with a scenic drive from downtown Juneau to the helicopter base, where they receive technical gear and a safety briefing. An A-Star helicopter then lifts them over the Tongass National Forest, rugged peaks, and vivid ice formations. Flight paths vary by day to provide the best views based on conditions.

Upon landing at the glacier base camp, a professional guide outfits participants with crampons, helmets, harnesses, and ice tools. After basic instruction and a short practice on low-angle terrain, climbers progress to steeper ice features suited to their skill level. Guides share glaciology facts, climbing tips, and ensure a safe, fun experience throughout. The tour concludes with a return flight to base and ground transportation back to the original pickup point.
