Many people will spend their mornings sleeping in, then enjoy a relaxing afternoon on a scenic tour to the Arctic Circle or perhaps visiting the Chena Hot Springs Resort. From there, nighttime is all about chasing the elusive Northern Lights. Fairbanks is the best place in the United States to view them.
The best time of year to view the Northern Lights is August through April, when there’s less daylight (though they happen all year round.) Seeing the Northern Lights isn’t guaranteed, but visitors who spend 3 nights in Fairbanks have a 90% chance of seeing them. Note that most Northern Lights tours operate between 10pm and 3 am.
If you’re hoping to visit Fairbanks before or after your Alaskan cruise, you can choose to fly in to Fairbanks from Anchorage, rent a car from Anchorage for a road trip, or take the Denali Star Train.
