Join an unforgettable guided biking adventure through the Mendenhall Glacier Valley, limited to just 8 participants, for an intimate experience. Your journey begins with a scenic shuttle ride to the Mendenhall Glacier, where you will be outfitted with bikes, helmets, and rain gear.

After gearing up, pedal through lush old-growth forests and alongside Mendenhall Lake on an 8-mile route through the Mendenhall Valley, weaving in and out of the Tongass National Forest. Your guide will share fascinating insights on the region’s wildlife, the Juneau Icefield, and local history as you take in the breathtaking views along the way.

After the ride, you will have 45 minutes to explore the Visitor Center, Steep Creek Trail, and the stunning surroundings. End your tour with a curated flight of craft beers at Forbidden Peaks Brewery, where you can enjoy spectacular ocean views. Not into beer? An alternative beverage will be available. This is the perfect combination of adventure, nature, and relaxation, all in one unforgettable tour!

Things You Need to Know

Inclusions:

  • Gear/equipment: bike, helmet, rain coat, rain pants, gloves

  • Roundtrip transportation

Requirements:

  • All guests must be at least 10 years of age and at least 4 feet 10 inches or taller to participate.
  • The minimum age to participate in the beer flight is 21 years old, and a legal photo ID is required. Nonalcoholic beverages are available.
  • Closed-toed shoes must be worn
  • Guests must be able to reasonably maintain balance and cycle for up to 8.5 miles on flat terrain.
  • Minimum of 2 required to book
  • Signed liability waiver

Duration: 4 hours (Roundtrip from cruise ship terminal.)

  • 20 minutes - pick up and drive to staging lot
  • 15 minutes - equipment and safety briefing
  • 30 minutes - ride from staging lot to West Glacier
  • 15 minutes - viewing of West Glacier
  • 35 minutes - ride from West Glacier to staging lot
  • 5 minutes - walk to Mendenhall Glacier visitor center
  • 45 minutes - independent exploration at the Visitor Center
  • 5 minutes - walk back to the van
  • 10 minutes - drive to Forbidden Peak Brewery
  • 30 minutes - beer tasting
  • 20 minutes - drive to drop off location (based on downtown distance, time may vary based on pick up location)

Meeting Instructions:

  • This tour meets in front of your cruise ship dock. Guests staying locally will be contacted to arrange for pick up the day before the tour. Fully detailed instructions are included on your finalized ticket vouchers.

ADA Accessibility of Tour:

  • This tour requires the ability to bike for 8 miles, with some stops that require walking. Upon special request, we have one tandem bike available for guests with assistance needs (i.e. vision impairment). Storage space is unavailable for collapsible wheelchairs, motorized scooters, or walkers. Please leave a comment during checkout if you have questions regarding the tandem bike available.

You must be age 10 years or older to participate in this activity and at least 4 feet 10 inches or taller.

Wildlife is abundant in Southeast Alaska and sightings are possible on any tour, however, this is not a designated wildlife tour and nothing can be guaranteed.

With an annual rainfall of over 100", rain may be likely. Locals call this liquid sunshine! Rain ponchos are provided if needed and the tour will not be canceled unless it is typhoon hurricane level of winds and rains.

Layered clothing, long pants, weather-appropriate dress, and Closed-toe shoes are recommended.

This is a moderate-level activity cycling for 8.5 miles.

There is a restroom facility at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center, our starting point for the cycling portion of the tour. There are also restrooms at the midway point (un-plumbed) and the end of the cycling portion at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center (plumbed).
