A salmon bake is one of the most popular meals to try in Juneau, as salmon are fresh and abundant in Alaska. Some salmon bakes are all-you-can-eat and full of local favorites, including wild rice and fresh blueberry treats. Even though it’s called a “salmon bake” the salmon is often roasted over a wood fire.

“This was a fabulous excursion for a day in Juneau. We booked independently (and saved significantly from those who booked directly from my cruise line) and felt like we saw all the best of Juneau. The Whale Watching boat was incredible--we saw so many whales and the captain and naturalist were friendly and informative. The glacier was beautiful, and we had time to hike down to the big waterfall beside the glacier. The salmon bake was a good meal, and the kids (ages 5-11) had a great time spying the salmon swimming in the lake, panning for gold, and roasting marshmallows over a campfire. I highly recommend this one!”

Historic Gold Panning and Salmon Bake Excursion:
“Wonderful experience! Our guide demonstrated how to pan for gold and everyone was quickly panning! We all came home with gold!! I joke that my husband made me a rich woman!!!! We went on to the Salmon Bake and enjoyed a delicious meal. We walked to a nearby beautiful waterfall and saw large salmon swimming. Highly recommend!!”
