Juneau Whale Watching, Mendenhall Glacier & Salmon Bake

This excursion was great! We got to see several mothers and their current babies. We also got to see a teenage male. Kelp. The boat captain and the wildlife guide were very knowledgeable. The Salmon Bake was great for me, loved the Salmon. Not so great for my husband. The non seafood main course thatr was offered were ribs and they had been overcooked.

We had a fantastic time on this adventure! First you will visit the Mendenhall glacier where you can walk to a scenic overlook of both the glacier and nugget falls, tour the visitors center or go on a 2 mile out and back hike to the base of nugget falls. We even got great picture of a bald eagle that was sitting in a tree by the visitors center. Then you are shuttled to the whale watching vessel where you will spend about 2 hours learning about the whales from a naturalist as you search for them. We saw humpbacks, orcas, and a sea lion on our watch! After that you are taken to an all you can eat salmon bake that also has a salad and sides buffet. Here you can roast marshmallows, pan for gold, visit the shop, and take a 5 minute walk to another small waterfall. We were very happy with our time, and found it to be a great deal! Would definitely recommend.

We overall enjoyed this excursion! We met the tour representative in a central area near the main shops of Juneau before boarding a bus with a couple of other families to go whale watch. The bus driver provided narration and stories of Juneau the entirety of our way and then dropped us off for whale watching first. With us going in mid-September, many of the whales were unfortunately already gone for the season, but our boat driver tried to coordinate with some of the other boats to find us a couple of whales. We re-boarded the bus and our driver dropped us off at Mendenhall Glacier. We unfortunately got there fairly late, so we only had about 30-40 minutes there. We walked the easy route to the viewpoint and checked out their visitor center before having to board the bus again. The bus driver then dropped us off at the Salmon Bake, continuing to provide knowledge regarding the city. The Salmon Bake was an all you can eat, come and go as you please experience. It was very unique, but the food was delicious and they had heaters on to help beat the cold rainy day. The Salmon Bake also included s'mores, which was a nice touch! They then had buses continuously running to take people from the Salmon Bake back to downtown. Overall, I would still recommend this experience, but with us being short on time for the glacier and our whale watching guides relying on us to spot the whales going 30+ miles an hour on a boat, it wasn't exactly the experience I had fully hoped for.

This excursion was amazing! Our boat captain was super cautious and was able to get us out to wear the whales were active. There were several in a pod and were setting up the bubble circles to broach the ocean surface through. Autumn was our whale expert and she gave us an incredible amount of information throughout the cruise. Our tour to Mendenhall Glacier was very informative as well. Mary was our driver and she made us feel like we were on a private tour. My only complaint would be that an hour is not enough time at the glacier. An extra 45 minutes would be nice. We finished the day at the salmon bake. That was the first time I actually enjoyed salmon. Cooked over a wood fire was incredible. The rest of the items were good as well. And the waterfall walk was beautiful. All in all I highly recommend this excursion.
