Juneau Whale Watching, Mendenhall Glacier & Salmon Bake

**This tour is not accepting new reservations for the 2023 season**

Attention Norwegian guests and guests docking at the AJ dock. Please be advised this tour must begin at least 45 minutes from after your arrival to Juneau as you will be docking outside of town and will need to take a shuttle to Downtown Juneau.

Experience three of Juneau's most popular attractions with this three-in-one excursion! This tour includes a narrated transfer to the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor's Center, guaranteed whale sightings, and an Alaska-style all-you-can-eat buffet to finish your day. Roundtrip transportation from the cruise ship terminal is also included.

Meet your guide on the pier of the cruise ship terminal, and hop on a bus to begin your narrated journey to the Mendenhall Glacier. Your guide will speak about Juneau and point out any wildlife you may catch a glimpse of on your way. Once at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor's Center, you will have plenty of time to indulge on a self-guided tour of the grounds. Explore one of the hiking trails, or listen to one of the US Forest Service Rangers speak about the ecology of the spectacular ice wall that is world renowned.

After you've spent some time exploring the Mendenhall Glacier, take a drive out to Auke Bay to begin your whale-watching expedition. Humpback whales spend their summer in Juneau feeding on thousands of krill a day. Your captain and naturalist will search for just the right spot to see humpback whales, orcas, and maybe even a sea lion or two!

Finish your day with a mouth-watering feast at the Juneau Salmon Bake! This Alaskan-style backyard barbecue was made famous on the Food Network and has been grilling up perfection since 1978. Enjoy the views of the Tongass Rainforest as you feast on clam chowder, Alderwood-grilled wild salmon, BBQ ribs, baked beans with reindeer sausage, wild rice pilaf, a selection of side dishes, salads, and Alaskan blueberry cake for dessert. Beer and wine are available for purchase.

Ooh my goodness! This was the first time we booked excursions outside of our cruise company and we are SO glad we did!! Our driver, Darius was AMAZING!! I can't say enough great things about him. He is so knowledgeable and has tons of information and history that he shared between destinations. He gave us little "tasks" to find out about history.... For instance, when we stopped at the Mendenhall Glacier, He told us to go into the visitor center and ask about Romeo. On the whale watching tour, Libby and Captain Lee we're both THE BEST tour hosts!! Libby was so informative and her jokes were spot on! Captain Lee made sure that we got the best experience possible and we saw SO many whales!!! The salmon bake was phenomenal!!! The food was amazing and when we went to leave, the lady working the drink station told us that we HAD to make a S'more before we left. This was something we weren't aware we could do!! The waterfall is breathtaking and the environment was beautiful ❤️ We couldn't be happier with our experience and will certainly use your services in the future when returning to Alaska!

It was a good experience we got to see a lot of whales I recommend this tour

We had the pleasure of booking a three part tour with Alaska Shore Excursions. The day lived up to expectations. Our bus driver Mary was a delight and provided extra support for my husband who has mobility issues. Mendenhall Glacier was our first stop and we highly recommend watching the video presentation in the observation center. It helped us understand the importance of the glaciers and the eco system that they support. We then went to the harbor for our Whale watching tour. Our tour guide and captain (Libby and Lee) were amazing and we saw lots of whales during our time on the water. Libby provided great insights and education regarding the whales and encouraged everyone to ask questions. Our final destination was the Alaskan Salmon Bake. I really didn't expect much from this stop but it was incredible. The facility is really well designed. There was a wide variety of food including ribs if you don't love salmon. The seating area is covered with propane heaters. This was the perfect way to wrap up a very busy day in Juneau. We strongly recommend this excursion to anyone visiting the area.

This was a fabulous excursion for a day in Juneau. We booked independently (and saved significantly from those who booked directly from my cruise line) and felt like we saw all the best of Juneau. The Whale Watching boat was incredible--we saw so many whales and the captain and naturalist were friendly and informative. The glacier was beautiful, and we had time to hike down to the big waterfall beside the glacier. The salmon bake was a good meal, and the kids (ages 5-11) had a great time spying the salmon swimming in the lake, panning for gold, and roasting marshmallows over a campfire. I highly recommend this one!

This was by far our favorite excursion and a highlight of the trip. The driver between locations was amiable and entertaining. The glacier was stunning. The whale watching expedition was exceptionally memorable, and the salmon bake tasty and laid back.

Aug 2023 - Polly S.

The whale watching boat tour was amazing and we saw many whales, even one that breached almost on cue! The crew was awesome and so entertaining. This was my favorite excursion of our trip!

Our group of 5 couples had an amazing experience! The area around the salmon bake was gorgeous with lush greenery, a waterfall and stream filled with spawning salmon. They grilled a delicious salmon dinner over an open fire. Next stop was an hour at Mendenhall Glacier with beautiful views and walking trails. We also saw salmon in the creek there. But the highlight was whale watching with Captain Dan and Naturalist Lee. They gave us some history and fun stories about the area and we saw so many whales, seals, & sea lions. Highly recommend!

Our tour guide/bus driver was friendly and informative! Clear communication re: pick-ups and timing at each attraction. Could have used about 30 more mins at the glacier instead of just the hour we were given. Felt a little rushed doing the 2-mile round-trip walk to the falls and then trying to look in the Visitor Center and gift shop, plus just have some moments to take the glacier in. Whale-watching and the salmon bake were both super! Good organization at each! The boat captain and naturalist were also friendly and informative! We were lucky to see a handful of whales. The salmon bake surprised us with how tasty all the food was. And a very pretty setting! Overall, happy to have booked this tour!

It was the perfect triple play for our day in Juneau. Let's start with the whale watching! The area they took us to were loaded with whales. They were breaching , bubble feeding and generally having a great time coming up out of the water for us. Captain Terry found all the great areas for us to see whales. He wasn't in a rush to move along when there were whales for us to watch. Libby our Naturalist on board was very informative about the whales. Both of them have been doing this for a long time, so they know the area well. Next up Mendenhall Glacier - The time allowed there unfortunately wasn't long enough to hike the longer trails. Would have liked more time to spend there exploring and hiking. Last on the agenda was the Salmon Bake. The dinner is held in an outdoor area near a creek. It's covered in case of rain with a series of canopies. But the weather was beautiful. They have a vocalist singing nice background music and a bonfire to make smores. The food served was delicious. One thing though, that wasn't so good, the coordinating of everyone. We wasted a lot of time while they coordinated the right number of people on the bus and the whale watching boat. There are a lot of people on all their tours and they need to get that organized a bit better. But our bus driver Mary kept us entertained by having a sing-a-long on the way to the Salmon Bake. Overall, it was the highlight of our Alaskan trip.

We had an amazing time! Our tour guides were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The only area that needed improvement was the wait time for transportation back to port.

Jul 2023 - Jessica N F.

Overall we give this excursion a 5 star rating because it was an awesome and memorable day. We could have done without the Mendenhall Glacier hike - I feel this is a little "oversold" in Juneau by everyone - you don't get close to the glacier as one would expect. The whale watching was amazing and our guide very informative and knowledgable. The salmon bake was a super cool way to end a day on shore and had great food and live music. My only recommendation for this is to try and keep a bit smaller of groups to manage, and maybe use regular buses vs. school buses although our bus driver Mary was hilarious.

Wow, our whale watching trip in Juneau, Alaska was absolutely incredible! We had the best weather ever, and our tour guide, Libby, was super cool. Captain Lee was awesome too! They worked together to find lots of humpback whales for us to see. We did not see just one whale or two, but about 15 humpback whales! They were doing something called "bubble netting," which was super cool to watch all the whales came together at once, and it was unforgettable! After the whale watching, we had a special Alaskan-style barbecue. We had yummy grilled salmon, tasty chicken, beans, rice, and lots of other delicious food. The blueberry cake with Salmon Glaze was out of this world! We couldn't see the Mendenhall Glacier because of some State regulations of attendance capacity, but Alaska Shore Excursions gave us our money back for that portion. Overall, it was an awesome experience that I'll never forget!

Jul 2023 - Ishmael E.

We did see Orcas in action! Beautiful whale watching cruise; unfortunately, no humpbacks to be found. Mendenhall Glacier was very impressive. The Salmon bake was terrific, more food than we could hope to eat and cooked well!

Jun 2023 - Keith J.

Overall a great day. The salmon bake was delicious. My only complaint is that we didn't have enough time at the glacier to truly explore it. We had 45 minutes to try to walk to the glacier and we would have needed an hour.

Jun 2023 - Romona B.

Excellent experience. After returning to the ship and talking with other people our excursions were the best by far. We saw many whales and a few sea lions. Kelly was was a wealth of knowledge about the area and habitat. She made the outing on the water extra special. The glacier was spectacular. Salmon bake was very tasty and atmosphere was a delightful rustic experience. Even though it was pouring rain the food and tables were under cover so we stayed dry while eating. All the bus drivers were informative and made the drive enjoyable.

Jun 2023 - Justin E.

This is the perfect excursion. Tons of whale activity and we even saw a mom and calf. The guides are very informative as well. Mendenhall Glacier is a must see. Don't miss out on the hike down to see it. And come hungry. We GORGED ourselves at the salmon bake. That glaze they put over the salmon and cake is to die for! This was a wonderful excursion for our family and I highly recommend it.

Jun 2023 - Monica S.

We had an amazing time, so happy we did this tour! We finished the tour with an incredibly tasty salmon lunch, would not hesitate to book it again!

May 2023 - Lisa A.

The tour was excellent! Mary (our driver/guide) was very knowledgable, professional and so much fun! We saw humpbacks and as an added bonus, Orcas!! The Salmon Bake was delicious and loved the atmosphere.... I would definitely use your company again!

Phenomenal tour. Booking online was simple and directions for tour straight-forward. Land and water transportation staff were amazing. Professional and charismatic. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Jun 2022 - Denise S.

Captain and first mate went above and beyond to ensure a five star rated excursion.

Sep 2021 - Marcus M.

I mean WOW!!!!! This excursion has it all. The whale watching was an experience that will never be forgotten. From seeing humpback whales we saw orca's as well. A real treat!!!! Mendenhall Glacier was breathtaking to say the least. I could have stayed there staring at it all day.. and the salmon bake was just so much fun. The little camp you go to for the bake was really neat with a real Alaskan feel. If you want a taste of Alaska this excursion has a little bit of it all!!!!

Aug 2021 - Laurie O.

This excursion included everything we wanted to see while in Juneau. I can't say enough about the bus driver and whale watching tour guides. Everyone was knowledgeable and friendly.
