Skagway Bennett Scenic Railroad Journey Train Tour

Escape into the heart of history! Travel 67.5 miles by train between Skagway, AK, and Carcross, YT, traveling the same route that the Klondike stampeders traversed in 1898! Couple that with a motorcoach transfer along the scenic Klondike Highway to/from Skagway, with a stop at Emerald Lake for photos, for the perfect combination of your Canadian & Alaskan holiday adventures.

A hearty boxed lunch will be served on board as the train travels the length of Lake Bennett and arrives in Carcross, YT. Bennett, BC, is accessible only via the White Pass train or by hiking the world-famous Chilkoot Trail, so it's a very exclusive and completely unique experience. Wander through the historic Bennett Station House museum and the remains of the Chilkoot Trail National Historic Site.

If untouched, breathtaking scenery, a railroad adventure, and a day packed with historic happenings are what you're looking for, then the Skagway Bennett Scenic Railroad Journey is the excursion for you!

It was excellent. The driver was very informative and interesting to listen to. I would have liked a little more time in the town in the Yukon. The train ride was breathtaking.

Sep 2023 - Ashley N.

Incredible views and excellent guide

Sep 2023 - DOMINGO B.

The guide of the bus was very kind and his explanations very interesting.

Aug 2023 - Nina R.

The guide on our van was fabulous. He told the history of the gold rush as stories but included all the important facts. The train was fun and the town of Lake Bennett was a great stop. Only thing missing was wildlife. Only saw a couple Eagles. I would have expected to see more in the summertime.

Aug 2023 - Stephen L.

Motor coach ride up was just as good if not better than the train ride back.

Aug 2023 - Jane A.

We enjoyed working with Alaska Shore Excursions. The day we went our trip was rerouted a bit due to a mudslide--no fault of theirs--that damaged the track. They worked hard to come up with a solution and refunded a generous portion due to the inconvenience. The views were beautiful and we enjoyed the day. We did this trip 5 years ago and returned with our kids and grandkids to do it again.

Aug 2023 - Ivonne A.

Very nice, easy to find the rail depot, everything went as they described, scenery is fantastic. Very nice tour

Jun 2023 - Matthew D.

100% the best part of the trip. If you are lucky enough to be in the last car you can have an unobstructed view out the back compared to other cars. The only caveat is that the 7:45 leaves at 7:45. Our ship was 30 minutes late docking/releasing us. We then had to take a shuttle part of the way and sprinted the rest of the way. We got there at 7:50 and the train left at 7:52. Our car was partially full so we are assuming there were a lot of missed excursions. So book a later time, or be prepared to run.

Our tour started with a coach ride to Carcross. We were a small group. The driver was fantastic - entertaining, funny, kept us all amused all the way and stopped off at the right places for scenic photos. The train ride from Carcross back to Skagway was very comfortable with friendly service from the train crew. Scenery was amazing. We were very happy to seek autumn colours around Bennet Lake. Highly recommend this tour.

Mike, the bus driver, is the best. He went over and beyond what was required to ensure we enjoyed the best experience. The train ride was breath taking! The entire staff was very informative and knowledgeable. Julianna especially was helpful with pointing out sites and assisting with pictures. This attraction is a must and was well worth the expense.

Aug 2019 - Jolene K.

Aug 2019 - Jinwen G.

Excellent trip

Aug 2019 - Yanghong L.

Our tour guide Jamison was great. He was courteous, knowledgeable and funny. The only comment is that the tour is a bit long. Would be nice if it were a bit less driving or time spent in train but more activities.

Aug 2019 - Pranab M.

We took the 8-hour bus-up-train-down trip through to Carcross in the Yukon territories, and it was an excellent trip for our family of four (one teenager and one 7 yo). Our bus driver Jamieson and our train operator-guides were wonderful friendly people with great narration and Q&A. If you have the time, this gives you a better feel for the absolutely gorgeous landscape and the madness of the Klondike gold rush. Definite recommend, and would do it again. The sunny day was a huge bonus. Even with the sun, carry/wear warm layers.

Jul 2019 - Joan H.

Jul 2019 - Ellen S.

Loved the train ride! it was a definite highlight of our vacation in Alaska!

Jul 2019 - Nigel F.

All in all a great experience of Coach and then 5+ hrs on the Train, a few more animal encounters would have been great, but that can't be guaranteed

Jul 2019 - Leslie C.

Jul 2019 - Lisa P.

What a great experience on this excursion, we had a sunny beautiful day traveling up the Mountains. Beautiful scenery

Jun 2019 - Michael S.

Enjoyed the trip with lots of good views. Both train and bus guides were knowledgeable and pleasant.

Jun 2019 - Michelle E.

Our bus driver that took us to Carcross was fantastic. Female, can't remember her name.. Gave us a great tour on the way there and was very knowledgeable. The train ride back was awesome as well. My only complaint is we ended up in a car with an Asian tour group and because the sun was shining in, they started covering the windows with papers to block the sun and across from us, they opened their umbrellas. I felt the staff should have said something because in doing this, they were blocking our view as well. They were sitting on the right side which is the scenic side during the trip back. Other than that, it was stunning and a great tour.

Jun 2019 - Marion A.

Breath taking. Very attentive staff. Just the right amount of time at each stop. I really can't think of anything that would improve the experience. Well maybe a bevy with the lunch;)

May 2019 - Nicholas B.

Prepare for a very long day if you do this trip. If you're traveling with children, bring something to keep them entertained. The tour guides were excellent.

Sep 2018 - Vernon G.

Very relaxing and informative train ride, we enjoyed it very much.

Sep 2018 - Ann M.

A very good excursion. Anne the bus driver was wonderful and knowledgable. The train ride was a bit long.

Aug 2018 - Michael M.

Picturesque.

Aug 2018 - Ting C.

My sister and I had a great time. Wonderful bus driver-Jenny!

Jul 2018 - Sally H.

This is, without a doubt, the best tour you can take while in Skagway. We took a motor coach up through the Yukon to Emerald Lake. This is the most beautiful, colourful lake I have ever seen. We also saw moose and bear right next to the road on the way up. After that we drove to Carcross where we boarded the narrow gage railroad train that took us back to Skagway. This train ride takes you through some of the most breathtaking scenery in our Country. Take this trip if you love great scenery

Jul 2018 - Andrew P.

Beautiful scenery on the train ride. Carcross was a neat little town to explore and over all it was a nice relaxing day.

Jul 2018 - Lyne R.

Loved it. So worth the cost. Hope you get James as your bus driver. He was a lovely man and a great narrator.

Jul 2018 - Doug R.

Excellent staff and commentary along the route. We were well looked after with water and served a nice lunch along the way. The scenery was outstanding.

Jul 2018 - Dennis R.

We really enjoyed this excursion. Everyone from the train staff to the bus tour guide were very knowledgeable and friendly.

Jul 2018 - Aadil L.

Great way to see the Alaskan / Yukon wilderness and learn about the Gold Rush! Informative commentary and scenic bus and train journeys.

Jul 2018 - Yumika K.

We enjoyed a scenic train ride. The weather was fantastic and the view was incredible.

Jun 2018 - Brian R.

What a great adventure to thy Yukon Territory. The staff was very informative--the Gold Rush stories added a lot of color and appreciation to the trip. The staff was very accommodating to the guests. The walk to the station from the far pier was a little farther than anticipated. It did appear to be an easy walk from the near dock.

Jun 2018 - Ann L.

Amazing we absolutely loved it and the history.

Jun 2018 - Judith M.

BEST DAY EVER. The weather was great. The scenery was awesome. The excursion itself is well planned. Plenty of photo opts. It was like a taking a trip back in time when on the railroad car. Jennie our bus driver was entertaining, knowledgeable and full of miscellaneous local and historical information.

Jun 2018 - Barbara C.

Fabulous tour. We are so glad we booked this adventure. The scenery was spectacular and all the guides were very knowledgeable and took care of everything.

Jul 2017 - LYLE E.

Was a very scenic train ride tour. It did get to be a long day though. We had an awesome bus ride back with our guide Mike. He is a Born and raised local and gave us a lot of insight into living in Alaska.

Jul 2017 - Phyllis R.

Was a good trip but I think a little expensive.

Jul 2017 - Amy B.

This was an amazing excursion. The train ride was long but the views were breathtaking. There's so much beauty there and the train was the best way to take it all in with the large windows and the opportunity to step outside for photos. Our tour guides for both the train (Dominic) and bus ride (Brian) were very knowledgeable about this area and educated us very well. Our brakeman even had many great tidbits to share. I loved the extra stops on the bus like at Lake Bennett, Emerald Lake, the Alaska sign, and even the stop when someone spotted a bear so that we could get photos. I highly recommend this tour.

May 2017 - Carolina G.

Excelente excursion.

Sep 2016 - Charungsak T.

Fantastic!

Jun 2016 - Allen B.

The scenery was beautiful. I would recommend taking the train as early in the morning as possible to see wildlife.
