Excursion Overview

Cook your catch wilderness dining adventure

The best fish you’ll ever eat in Alaska is the one you catch yourself! Embark on an authentic fishing adventure in the pristine wilderness along Alaska’s coastline.

You’ll be outfitted with waterproof boots, bib overalls, a hooded jacket, hat, and gloves to ensure you're comfortable as you set off in a stable, open-air 24-foot skiff. Glide through awe-inspiring scenery while you cast your line—what you catch will become the centerpiece of a gourmet meal at a remote campsite! With just six guests per boat, your professional guide will tailor the experience to match your interests and skill level.

As you fish, keep an eye out for wildlife—seals, eagles, whales, porpoises, spawning salmon, and occasionally even bears. Using top-quality gear, you’ll have the opportunity to hone your skills while landing a variety of rockfish, cod, or Pacific salmon (seasonal).

After fishing, the skiff will take you to a secluded wilderness campsite nestled among ancient cedar and spruce trees, where a crackling fire awaits. There, you’ll savor a gourmet meal featuring your freshly caught fish, served over a saffron-infused bouillabaisse-inspired stew (shellfish-free). Enjoy sourdough rolls with garlic aioli, a signature rhubarb and blueberry crisp, and steaming mugs of coffee or hot chocolate. You’ll leave with unforgettable memories of the Alaskan way of life and the satisfaction of a truly unique experience.

Please Note: For the month of October guests will be taken to the Alaska Fish House for their meal rather than the beach picnic

The skiffs provide a comfortable ride and fishing experience for up to 6 passengers.

This trip is conducted on 24’ aluminum skiffs equipped with 175 horsepower
outboards. Each guest sits in their own bucket seat. These seats absorb wave
impacts, can spin to face any direction, enabling fishing comfortably from a seated
position. All our boats are custom-built by Raider Boats in Colville WA.

Each guest is provided with Helly Hansen waterproof rain pants, a raincoat, a warm wool hat, wool socks, rubber boots, and gloves. You will be prepared for any weather (and you'll definitely want to have someone take a photo of you dressed in true Alaskan fashion!). We are proud to feature Penn reels and Shakespeare rods, depending on the species of fish we are pursuing.

If you have any food allergies, please inform us at checkout. There is no shellfish included in the meal.

We have been operating fishing tours for ten years, and we rarely have passengers that have to deal with seasickness, even those who are prone to motion sickness are comfortable on our boats. The boats which we operate have a low center of gravity, eliminating the rolling motion that usually generates a queasy stomach. However, if you do get sick there will be no extra charge.

We loved this excursion Kitani (guide) was great. She found us fish, and although the fish were not always willing to bite, we did catch some and have a lot of fun fishing. The best part was seeing a woman in her 80s catch her first fish ever. Then to the beach/camp for a fire and some Cioppino they made using the fish we caught. Very delicious. The camp was cool and views were great. We would highly recommend this.

This was great, but wish the fishing part was longer. Our guide, Raven, was friendly and did a good job finding fish. We really enjoyed the fishing part though (only wish it was longer). We got about 4 different type of rockfish and had fun doing it! My son said it was the best fishing experience ever!

Our tour guide, Troy, was awesome. I didn t realize though that you only got to keep a few fish, so there wasn t a lot of time spent actually fishing. My kids like fish, but the food was served in a sauce they didn t likeâ We ended up catching a massive halibut, but we re not allowed to keep it because we didn t have a permit. Would have been nice to have the option. Would probably do an actual charter next time. Great activity for younger families. If you want to catch bigger fish go with a charter.

My adult son and I spent a week exploring Ketchikan and booked this tour prior to our arrival. There were only 4 passengers on our tour (including my son and me) plus our guide Lindsay. To sum it up we had a phenomenal time. The rain forecasted for that day stayed mostly onshore so the weather was great for fishing. In additional to catching our limits on Rockfish (unfortunately no salmon!) we saw eagles, a small pod of Orca's surfacing nearby, and even saw a small herd of blacktail deer swimming from one island to the mainland. Our guide Lindsay was quick to move us from place to place if the fish weren't biting. After fishing for 3 hours we boated over to a covered campsite on a remote island and enjoyed coffee and hot chocolate around several camp fires while our catch of fish was cooked up, which of course was delicious. We finished up with desert and then headed back over to Ketchikan to wrap up our fishing expedition. Everything this was great, thank you to the Baranof team for fantastic experience
