Excursion Overview

Take to the river banks for fishing and wildlife spotting

Guests traveling to Icy Strait Point are in for a treat on this off-the-beaten-path outing. Fish along the river banks where the area is teaming with wildlife. Delight in the remoteness, surrounded by nature as you fish and hike in wild Alaska.

Take in the sights on your roundtrip journey through the Tlingit village of Hoonah. Follow old logging roads out of town to a wild "last frontier" area. Pull on your waders and try your hand at fishing with the provided fly or spinning rods. Lessons are offered by your experienced guide as needed.

While wildlife sightings are not guaranteed, the island has more brown bears per square mile than almost anywhere on Earth. Your guide will be on hand as you fish for salmon and/or trout.

Please note: This tour is strictly catch and release fishery. A State of Alaska Fishing License must be purchased in advance of this excursion. Guests ages 16+, please visit Alaska Dept. of Fish and Game to purchase and print your Non-resident 1 Day Sport Fishing License for $15.

I can't say enough about the stream trout fly fishing experience with my guide Nathalie. She was knowledgeable, well equipped and a good teacher. We got into a lot of fish in short order. She then found a Coastal bear in a reasonable delay. All this in plenty of time to get back to the ship without rushing. Thank you kindly, Nathalie.
