Mendenhall Glacier Ice Adventure Tour

This exclusive Juneau tour will take you on a canoe paddle over an iceberg-filled lake on your way to explore the Mendenhall Glacier. Experience its immensity and effects on the landscape as you trek alongside the edge of the glacier ice. Every portion of this tour boasts stunning views and unforgettable environments. With extremely limited capacity, this adventure is Juneau's most sought-after adventure tour.

This adventure starts with a scenic drive from the cruise ship terminal in downtown Juneau to the Mendenhall Glacier. With your professional guides, you will paddle with a small group in a canoe across Mendenhall Lake which is surrounded by towering waterfalls, wildlife, and massive mountain peaks. Along the way, your guides will entertain you and share their knowledge about the glacier's history and the unique Alaskan environment.

Once arriving on the shore next to the glacier, you will be led on a hike through the rocky moraine to view the impressive ice features. Marvel at the deep blue-hued ice exposed by crevasses, moulins, and other glacial formations. While taking in this remote Alaskan wilderness, your guides will provide you with an in-depth interpretive experience about your surroundings.

Continue to enjoy the dramatic scenery as you paddle back across the lake where you will be greeted with hot beverages before your return transportation. On this small group adventure, you will be one of the few to visit this unique location for an experience of a lifetime!

Inclusions: Bottled water and a light snack. Waterproof rain jackets, rain pants, rubber boots, helmets, trekking poles, and life jackets.

The Mendenhall Glacier is, in part, famous for the Mendenhall Glacier Ice Caves, but those are rarely seen on tours. Mother nature determines when an Ice Cave is formed and there is no way to predict when this will happen. Cave formation is not dependent on time of year or weather.

The minimum age for participation on this tour is 12 years old. Guests must be between 90-240 lbs for life jackets to fit. Full use of limbs is required for this tour with moderate physical activity required.

This tour operates under a permit with the Tongass National Forest and is an equal opportunity provider.

Wondeful experience...our guides were very good and helpful....

Aug 2023 - Edward L.

We were the only people on the water!!!! It was unbelievably gorgeous. You get an up close view of the Glacier that no one else can get. There are only two tour companies that do this and none of them are with the cruise lines. Do this tour!!! Book with Alaska Shore Excursions!!! Alec, Ben and Mark were knowledgeable and so accommodating! Ben knows his stuff!! They provide all of the rain gear and anything you need from your feet to your hands. It s my favorite thing we did in Alaska! More than the helicopter ride!!!

Aug 2023 - Brittany L.

A very cool way to see the glacier as an active participant! Guides were great and we learned quite a bit while taking in the amazing beauty of the glacier, waterfall and lake. Highly recommend.

Aug 2023 - Jitin P.

Both guides were awesome! Great experience.

Jul 2023 - Chris H.

Great Tour!

Jul 2023 - Natalie M.

This excursion was so fun! I enjoyed canoeing on the Mendenhall Lake, and hiking near the glacier. The glacier has melted so far that you can't get on it, but still amazing to see so close. The equipment they give you to use is nice quality and the tour guides were awesome.

Jul 2023 - Mark C.

Ben and Alec were completely brilliant - great day out - thoroughly recommend!

Jul 2023 - Taylor B.

Such a fun experience! Highly highly recommend if you want to get out and see some of Alaska's beauty up close while having some fun getting some activity in! Definitely got a workout with the canoe portion :) The blues of the glacier were unreal. The hiking portion was really cool, even though you don't go on the glacier. The canoe portion we went right up to the giant waterfall and even got to pick up and eat some ice from the lake. Snacks, water and even a hot drink at the end were provided! Bryce and Boots were fantastic guides who kept everything fun and running smoothly!

Jul 2023 - Doreen H.

This was an awesome trip. The canoe paddle was not that hard and Sara and Dave kept us together. Seeing the glacier up close was beautiful. The rain gear provided and the after paddle warm drinks were much appreciated.

Jul 2023 - Paul J.

This was a great trip - our guides were knowledgeable and pleasant, the rain gear provided was much appreciated.

Jun 2023 - Julie K.

This was an amazing adventure! From the moment Bryce picked us up at the cruise ship, we realized it was going to be a great day. Bryce was enthusiastic and charismatic. We joined Alec at the lake and they got us geared up and we were off! They were safety conscious, as is the company, and we had all of the equipment (and yummy snacks) that we needed for our adventure. From the moment we settled on the lake, it felt like a virtual reality experience. It was so beautiful and large and amazing, my brain could not believe it was real. Bryce and Alec were extremely knowledgeable and obviously had a passion for science and guiding. My children, ages 13 and 15, were on the trip and enjoyed every moment. I had anticipated hearing typical teenage complaints about having to paddle a canoe, but neither one did and they never showed signs of fatigue. We stayed warm and dry in their gear despite some rain. The lake, mountains, waterfall, and, finally, the glacier were more beautiful than words can express. We enjoyed both the paddling and the short hike to the glacier which had calved recently. We could not have expected a better experience, made more spectacular by our guides. I left wishing I could travel the world on more adventures with Bryce and Alec because their enthusiasm and passion for what they do was contagious!

Jun 2023 - Wendy H.

Absolutely loved this adventure. Alec and Sarah were great, very personalized. I like that it was a smaller group and the length of time. I did not feel rushed.

May 2023 - David D.

Awesome tour!! Our guides (David and Miller) were fun, friendly, knowledgeable as well as very responsible. Also the gear provide was all top notch. I would highly recommend this trip!!

Sep 2022 - Jorge C.

Magnificent! Our tour guides were friendly, knowledgable, fun, and responsible and created an amazing tour for a group of strangers who found common ground in our appreciation and awe of Alaska's grand, beautiful and important landscape. I booked this tour because I was unable to get a helicopter/glacier tour. I'm so glad that didn't work out and we got to do this instead!

Sep 2022 - Thomas W.

Loved every minute of this excursion. We had the lake and the glacier pretty much to ourselves, which was glorious after having been stuck on a stuffy, crowded cruise ship. Our guides Mike and Kevin were a lot of fun and took us to some cool sights. Highlight of our trip!

Aug 2022 - Sherri O.

What an amazing adventure - something that we will never forget! The entire experience - from pick-up, drop-off, etc - was first rate. The added rain gear was a bonus; the provided hiking poles were a blessing; and the guides themselves were priceless!

Jul 2022 - Tanya B.

The absolute highlight of our trip to Alaska via cruise ship. Bryce and Kelsey were top-notch - informative, entertaining, and kind. They treated us so well and ended the trip with a nice hot beverage. The gear they provided was top of the line and necessary! Don't bother bringing your own you won't need it.

Jul 2022 - Tonya E.

OMG! Do this trip! It was so cool! Paddling wasn't bad at all and you get right up to the glacier. They provide you with all the gear, just layer up underneath. Lena and Kels were so much fun - and they knew what they were doing and gave us lots of background and info. I was reassured that they were careful to know when we had to be back on board the cruise ship and were prompt getting us there with plenty of time.

Jul 2022 - Scott M.

This tour was excellent!! Matt and Bryce provided excellent information throughout the tour and made it very enjoyable. I would highly recommend using this company!

Jul 2022 - Sharon F.

Our guides were both extremely professional and showed us amazing sites and info. The canoeing and glacier walk to the Mendenhall Glacier were spectacular. I am also grateful for all the preplanning you put in with the prepackaged snacks and water and hot beverages at the end. Would definitely recommend this to anyone!

Jun 2022 - Mary D.

Matt and Lena were absolutely fantastic! They were so knowledgeable, friendly and fun. They made a big impression on us about how important it is that we respect and preserve our environment. The hot chocolate at the end was a nice surprise too!

Jun 2022 - Suresh S.

This is an exhilarating tour for those who are prepared to or want to stretch their muscles. You will canoe, hike and have lot of fun enjoying the nature. We spotted a bear!

Jun 2022 - Beverly C.

Glacier and tour guides were extraordinary.

May 2022 - Mark Z.

Words can't express how wonderful this opportunity was! The knowledge of our two guides, Kelby and Kelsie, was more than we could have expected. And the experience of walking on a glacier that may not be in this location in 10 years was priceless! Thank you for a lifetime of memories!

Sep 2021 - Sharon W.

What an amazing time! The helicopter ride, hiking and climbing on the glacier were all first rate. Couldn't have asked for more. Thank you!

Sep 2021 - Denise K.

We had the best time doing this Excursion . The two guides where wonderfulâ full of great information and funny stories. Our experience was superb and we will be recommending to all our friends. One of our tour guides use to snowboard but now surfs so he and my husband had a good conversation . Sorry forgot his name but great great guy. Took some great pictures and took his time .

Aug 2021 - Giovanna B.

Jul 2021 - Susan H.

Ryan and Andrew made this tour the absolute BEST tour I have ever been on. Soo very informative and FUN . I am telling everyone about them. The tour, and what you do and see is the best thought out and executed and did I say FUN? Sue from Texas

Jul 2021 - Nathan C.

This tour was definitely a major highlight of our tour of SE Alaska via the Alaska Marine Highway Ferry! Ryan and Casey, the canoe/hiking/glacier walk guides were extremely professional and safety first, which is needed to get visitors of varying abilities across a very cold lake and to walk on the glacial ice. It was worth money to be almost the only people on beautiful Lake Mendenhall and to walk on the glacier. It was sobering to see the effects of climate change up close and personal, though as both guides relayed how far the glacier had receded just in there time. It was worth money!

Jul 2021 - Tina M.

Andrew and Casey were amazing. This is a must do excursion in Juneau. The excursion was very organized and done very professionally. Fully recommend it!!

Jun 2021 - Ana Z.

This is a fantastic tour! Highly recommend! I was a little apprehensive before the tour because I am not the most coordinated or fit person, but our guides Ryan and Casey made the experience great for everyone. We were picked up in Juneau and shuttled out to Mendenhall Lake to be outfitted with all the requisite attire. They handed out rain pants, boots, and jackets before we got on the lake. The ~2.5 mile canoe out to the glacier was work, but definitely doable since everyone is rowing together. Once we arrived, they handed out micro-spikes to put on over our boots and we began walking around on the glacier. You definitely have to have good balance and an ability to walk on uneven ground, but I never felt rushed or worried because we took it at an easy pace. Both Ryan and Casey were extremely knowledgeable about animals and vegetation in the area and were able to answer any questions about the glacier and the surrounding area. They were fantastic leaders, they made sure no one felt alone or left behind, and as a bonus were funny and great photographers. It was an amazing and unforgettable experience.

Jun 2021 - Arturo H.

I cannot speak highly enough of this tour! Everything from the tour guides to the actual experience were amazing! Andrew and Ryan were our guides and they were equally funny, engaging and knowledgeable. They had no problem taking a 1,000 pictures for us and did everything with a smile. If you are second guessing it, this is your sign to book it. You won't regret it!

Sep 2019 - Sandra C.

Sep 2019 - Dawn G.

Sep 2019 - Camron N.

Casey and Grant were great. Very knowledgeable of the area and glacier. We felt safe the entire time. Highly recommend this tour, it was once in a life time to walk these magnificent glaciers

Sep 2019 - Janice B.

Our favorite thing we did while in Alaska! I can't say enough good things about this tour. Ryan and Joey were awesome. It's a little work to row out to the glacier but it is so worth it. An amazing experience. If you're wondering if you should do this, do it! It's awesome.

Sep 2019 - Jorrel M.

One of the highlights of our trip! Amazing excursion with knowledgeable guides. Made us feel safe throughout the tour. Will definitely recommend to friends and family.

Sep 2019 - Miranda V.

This was one of the best excursions we've ever enjoyed. Small group led by the informative yet witty combo of Ryan and Grant on a paddle to the beautiful Mendenhall Glacier. Then strapped on our crampons and onto the ice! The ice cave and walk along deep crevasses was breathtaking and a memorable experience. Thanks so much!

Sep 2019 - Theresa M.

This was by far the best time. Our guides Grant and Ryan were awesome. You are very lucky to have such personable and knowledgeable staff. I can't say enough about these two. Our canoe ride was wonderful and the fact that we got to go in ice caves was truly a magical experience. We even had a couple get engaged on this tour!!! Totally recommend you book this excursion with Alaska Shore excursions, you won't be disappointed!!!! Thank again for a wonderful time. Terri and Kelly Mission Viejo Californa

Sep 2019 - Sue M.

This was the highlight of my trip to Alaska! It is unbelievable how beautiful it is. We even got to look down into an ice cave. The guides were so knowledgeable and knew exactly how to explain what to do- from paddling the canoe,to putting on the crampons to walking on the ice. I felt completely safe with their guidance, and they made it all accessible for this 50+ lady.

Sep 2019 - Natalie O.

This is truly a once in a lifetime experience. It was SO COOL. We hiked up the glacier to a wonderful view. Then we hiked down to a small cave and saw the most amazing ice tunnel. After the tour I could not stop thinking about how lucky I was to get to do something so amazing. The guides were also great. Abby and Spencer were knowledgeable, skilled, and patient.

Sep 2019 - Ivy C.

This excursion was an unbelievable experience that I would recommend time and time again! Our guides Ben and Casey were knowledgeable and helpful in helping our group navigate the glacier. We felt really lucky to be able to enter the ice cave!

Sep 2019 - Susan H.

AMAZING, this is a must...not just seeing but GETTING ONTO A GLACIER was a definite want, and getting into the Ice Caves was a dream come true! CANOEING Mendenhall Lake. Witnessing seagulls chasing off a bald eagle away from their eggs and younglings. Seeing (but wishing we could of canoed closer) to the waterfall. TREKKING up Mendenhall Glacier and getting into a couple of BLUE ICE CAVES was truly an AWE experience, and got to drink the crystal clear glacier water. The company provided everything you need from head to toe gear. The guides were engaging, informative and kept everyone in line for safety. Thank you!!!

Sep 2019 - Patricia G.

Our guides, Ryan and Abbey were exceptional. Excellent safety briefings, and instructions. They both have a very genuine love of their job, and their concerns for the environment are evident. We had so much fun with them, learning about global warming and had the time of our life trekking the glacier and going into an ice cave. They were very careful to check all areas before we walked. Thanks again to both of them for a fabulous experience, Pat and Mike from Toronto - August 26/ 2019

Aug 2019 - Caitlin M.

This tour was the highlight of my Alaskan cruise, for sure! Abbi and Ryan were very professional and fun guides who kept it light-hearted while paddling while also making sure we kept going. I got to see the ice caves (they're not guaranteed because Mother Nature is unpredictable) but even without that, it's a much more personal and up-close version of the glaciers than you can get pretty much anywhere else. Totally awesome!

Aug 2019 - Jeanne G.

Abbey and Ryan were awesome! Loved the ice caves! Best excursions I ve ever done!

Aug 2019 - Cheryl S.

This was the highlight of our Alaska trip! An amazing adventure to spectacular ice caves led by Micah and Ryan: experts and personable guides. The equipment provided was superb, in great condition, and the entire process well organized. We were surprised and delighted by healthy snacks during & hot beverages after the trip. Five stars is NOT ENOUGH!!!

Aug 2019 - LaRae M.

Best tour we had. Amazing experience as we were lucky to get into an ice cave and as a bonus saw a bear on shore which even had the guides excited! Casey and Ben were excellent. A must do !

Aug 2019 - Dawn L.

It was a great day out. The canoeing was fun. Going under the glacier was really beautiful, we could see the different colours of blue and the light shining through. Walking on top of the glacier was also amazing with a deep blue gulley and a waterfall down it. This was one of the highlights of our tour.

Aug 2019 - Astrid A.

Amazing! Being on that glacier was an incredible experience. Our guides Abby and Joey were very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. We were able to explore the glacier safely and never felt rushed. We went with two teenagers and they were engaged the whole time! A must do!

Aug 2019 - Barbara M.

This excursion totally exceeded our expectations!!!! We loved it! Our guides Ben and Joey were awesome and funny! They made the day so much fun. They gave us lots of information about Alaska and glaciers and nature along the way in a very entertaining manner. They were very helpful guiding us through the canoe adventure as well as the glacier trek. I loved how much you could tell just how much they truly enjoy what they do and loved sharing it with the group. They were thrilled to be able to show us inside the ice cave and in awe of the ever changing landscape! Was the highlight of our trip!

It was great. Micah and Abby were outstanding

Aug 2019 - Grant S.

Great experience, worth the money, the gear, guides etc were all exceptional

Aug 2019 - Andrew S.

Good to have a challenge (the canoeing) with our new found team members. Safety was well handled, as we saw when we helped out some guys who had not secured their inflatables which were being blown away. The glacier was so impressive - amazing deep blue inside. Catch it before it goes.

Aug 2019 - Rhonda M.

First, we had the best weather for this excursion. Had so much fun paddling and telling jokes in the canoe. Grant and Ryan were super and so knowledgeable. Very educational once on the glacier and the highest of safety practices.

Aug 2019 - Kimberly B.

What a fabulous time! Guides were great--knowledgeable and friendly. Definite work out to paddle in canoe 2.5 miles one way, but worth it. Gear well kept and appropriate. Recommend highly. A check-off our bucket list.

Jul 2019 - Dennis A.

This was the highlight, by far, of our entire cruise to Alaska. Joey and Casey were simply outstanding as guides. I am sure I will forget some of the ways they showed this but it was a great adventure. Both Joey and Casey were incredibly personable, knowledgeable, helpful and simply fun to be around. They took a bunch of paddling novices and got us to the glacier without a hitch and in pretty good time. This left us a lot of time on the glacier. Once on the glacier, they were constantly checking to make sure we were safe and that we did what conditions allowed. However, they were also outstanding in showing us places that were especially interesting. They even helped us get good photos to show everyone back home. Please make sure to give Joey and Casey props for the job well done. In fact, not "well" done, exceedingly well done. We also appreciated the fact that they provided all of the necessary equipment and gear for this excursion. It made everything so much easier.

Jul 2019 - Richard H.

The highlight of our Alaskan cruise! This excursion is incredible! The guides are knowledgeable and captivating and the experience is extraordinary. On your return you'll hear other cruise guests saying, "We saw people on the glacier" and you'll be able to say "That was us"! DO NOT pass this one up! An awesome experience!

Grant and Spencer were awesome! We really enjoyed our experience; it was my husband s favorite part of our vacation!

Jun 2019 - Constantina W.

This was the highlight of our Alaskan Cruise. A truly a once in a lifetime experience!!!! My husband had had back surgery 7 weeks ago, so we were a bit afraid this might be too strenuous (plus, we are both in our 60s) for us, but it was PERFECT. Casey and Grant are the best guides EVER! They were happy to lend a hand when we needed one, and they both are so personable and knowledgeable. If you only take ONE shore excursion, make it this one!!!!

Jun 2019 - Lisa M.

It was an amazing experience and we enjoyed our guides, Ryan and Joey who took care of us and made sure we had a fun time! They were great and the adventure was a highlight of our Alaskan trip. We also enjoyed the snacks and warm drinks when we were done!! Very well put together excursion that will make a lifetime memory for all ages.

Jun 2019 - Sarah V.

This was an amazing excursion! I booked this for a group of 5 (2 girls 3 guys). Paddling a canoe seemed daunting at first but we had a smooth ride and the guides were phenomenal. They were informative and patient. We got to experience something that may not be available for much longer. The glacier was breathtaking and we got pictures by glacier rivers and caves. If you're adventurous this trip is HIGHLY recommended!

Jun 2019 - Roger F.

MUST do!!!!! What a great experience. So many others wished they did this after doing a different excursion that came close to the glacier but didn't go all the way. The best excursion I've ever done as it's not one that feels touristy, and who gets to say they've actually walked on a glacier and not a flatten out part that helicopters land on?

Jun 2019 - Lori J.

We had a awesome time. Truly a must do excursion. Our guides, Casey & Joey, were great, friendly, informative, passionate and full of life. Words can not and will not do justice when explaining the beauty of the things we saw . We absolutely recommend this excursion!!!!!!

Jun 2019 - AZRAH A.

Had a great time and did not regret at all for choosing this excursion. The only downside was we didnt get to see any ice cave (already stated in the blueprint that it is not guaranteed). Our guides Grant & (can't remember the other one!) were awesome too!

Jun 2019 - Lindsay W.

Absolutely the best excursion we did, and we booked one at every port. It was magical. The staff made us feel safe so we could focus in the experience, which was awe inspiring. I get a huge smile every time I think of it. It was so good, I felt bad telling other cruisers about it because they missed it.

Jun 2019 - Lisa F.

Fantastic! Abby and Casey were great guides. It was a lot of work, but worth it.

Jun 2019 - Jill L.

Ryan and Grant were excellent guides. The tour was educational, a little physical, and super fun. Our only regret is not being able to go into the ice caves due to conditions. I was really looking forward to that. Aside from that we highly recommend this tour and our guides.

Jun 2019 - Marja E.

We had an awesome experience canoeing to and hiking on the glacier. It is something we will never forget. Casey and Abby were excellent guides. They were friendly, patient, and helpful. There isn't a more exhilarating or breath taking way to see and experience the glaciers than from a canoe on the water and literally hiking on them. Unbelievable! Had a fabulous time and an absolute highlight of our trip. Thank you!!

May 2019 - Danielle W.

We had a great time! Our guides were wonderful. I recommend this excursion, experiencing the glacier by hike is cool.

May 2019 - Carolina B.

Magnificent tour!...Joey and Ryan best and funniest guides ever! beautiful scenery all tour long, kayak ride a blast, and there is simply not enough words to describe the beauty of the glacier and being able to walk on it.

May 2019 - Leslie P.

Amazing experience! Our guides were the greatest. It was an unbelievable experience. Thank you so much! Very organized, efficient and safe adventure.

May 2019 - Ashley S.

Our tour guide Elrik and KC were amazing! They both were very knowledgeable and we had a blast with them. The excursion was a little underwhelming. We spent most of the time rowing to get to the glacier. Unfortunately we only spent about 30 minutes on the ice. That was pretty disappointing. I think the price is very steep for this type of excursion.

Sep 2018 - Michele G.

Best excursion in Alaska! Better than a helicopter to a glacier which we also did. This gives you more time on the glacier which is amazing. Guide took the time to learn everyone's name. Gave us more time on the glacier than expected. Definitely a work out but well worth it!

Sep 2018 - Christina P.

What an awesome experience to walk and explore a Glacier on my trip to Alaska. The canoe trip over was tough but so worth it. The views on the way over and the hike up tothe Glacier was so worth it. Matt and Mo-our guides were awesome and very helpful through the hike and helped us to accomplish every part of the Glacier. Both were very knowledgeable about part of this hike. Thank you for making this the best excursion.

Sep 2018 - Brandon S.

Truly amazing! Alli was an awesome tour guide! Wish I could have brought my entire family the puddling can be intense.

Sep 2018 - Jessica B.

Matt and Andrew were our guides and they were awesome and very informative! They made the trip fun for our whole group

Sep 2018 - Elizabeth R.

Matt and Andrew were great guides. We had a really well led paddle out and a great hike on the ice. The warm drinks after were a welcome touch too. Can't say enough great things about the trip!

Sep 2018 - Armando L.

Ryan and Mo were a wonderful tour guides! All the time they were kind and Rayn make the effort to speak in spanish 'cause my father doesn't speak english. Both were very warm and give us all the information about the glaciar and Mendenhall lake. It was the best of our trip! I absolutely recommend Alaska Shore Excursions!!

Sep 2018 - Charlene C.

Excellent day with Allie and Matt! Informative and courteous. Was a trip highlight! Type 2 fun!

Sep 2018 - David S.

the guides were great and the tour was fantastic! We had rain in the morning but our guides tried their best to keep spirits high. They were very informative on the glacier as well and being out there is something everyone should do if they go to Alaska. Worth every penny and I'd highly recommend it to anyone.

Sep 2018 - Lisa T.

This was the absolute highlight of my entire Alaska trip. Andrew and Ali were fantastic, knowledgable guides. My experience with Alaska Shore Excursions was so much better than the excursions I did through Princess, I am going to recommend everyone use them throughout Alaska. And walking on the Mendenhall Glacier is not to be missed.

Sep 2018 - Christine S.

Excellent adventure! Getting to walk around on the glacier was amazing!!!!!! The canoe trip was so scenic (a bit exhausting by the end of return trip but worth the effort!). The guides were great, very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. I really appreciated that they provided all the rain gear so we didn't have to bring our own. I highly recommend this trip for those who are adventurous. This is not a good fit if you don't like physical activity and are nervous around water sports

Aug 2018 - Jodie L.

great day, weather was fantastic and we had great guides.

Aug 2018 - Tracy S.

This was the best shore excursion we took in Alaska.

Aug 2018 - Kaitlyn J.

What an experience! We got to walk on the glacier and take in the beauty. Ours guides were great. A once in a lifetime experience!

Aug 2018 - Earl Willis W.

Our guides were exceptional and the experience was unforgettable. this company is a must! Thanks for an awesome experience!

Aug 2018 - Glenn M.

This was the best excursion of all. The guides Matt and Ryan were excellent. They made sure everything was safe and fun. We had a steady paddle across the lake to the glacier and Matt and Ryan made sure we kept a good pace and entertained at the same time. On the glacier they were more than happy to give us the best possible way to explore the glacier. This excursion is not offer thru the cruise line. I am so happy I was able to book it separately. If you love the outdoors then I highly recommend this tour. You won't be disappointed.

Aug 2018 - Michael M.

Moe and Ryan worked hard to assure the float was a safe one. They were very informative and entertaining. You might consider providing voice lessons for Ryan. He is a bit flat.

Aug 2018 - Adrienne C.

Fabulous experience. Our guides were terrific. The best way to experience the glacier. They provided us all the gear and were very professional. Our photos are incredible from our experience. This trip definitely requires you to be prepared to paddle the canoe and to hike on the glacier for all to enjoy the trip. I booked this trip on my own. My crew ship was not helpful in making sure we could make this excursion so you need to be proactive and communicate to both your cruise ship and with the tour operator to make sure you have the time and location correct.

Aug 2018 - Rhona P A.

When I first booked, I was excited. When I finally arrived by canoe paddling 2 1/2 miles, I couldn't believe I did it. Once we got to land, I started to become a little more frightened. Going across slippery rocks, concerned me, and I wasn't sure if I wanted to move forward, but I did. Once I got close to the glacier, I questioned my ability to be able to do the steep climbing up and down, and didn't want to do it. With the help of my guides, and the support of the other tourists, I can say, that I was proud that I completed the journey, and challenged myself. I was the oldest person on the canoe, and being a 67 year young woman, I DID IT :) I faced my fears, and will always remember this special moment in my life.

Aug 2018 - Peggy D.

Ali & Ryan were fantastic!!! A wonderful experience canoeing over to the glacier & then trekking on it!! It was nice having all equipment available, you thought of everything, no worries & a once in a life time memory!

Aug 2018 - Heather H.

We had an AMAZING trip! It was even better than I had imagined...and I have a big imagination! :-) Thanks for an awesome adventure!!

Aug 2018 - Sunil B.

Very exciting, highly recommended

Aug 2018 - Rachelle B.

This was the highlight of our tour! Our guides Andrew and Casey were phenomenal. Andrew had so much knowledge and energy and took us around the glacier to find a rare ice cave! I would highly recommend this tour just for the experience of being on the glacier. It is beautiful. There is a 2.5 mile paddle over and back with about 10 others, but it is well worth it!! Supposedly, only 2000 permits are allowed to be sold in a season, so it is a unique experience by far. If you are up for it, it is the experience of a lifetime. In addition, we had another tour cancelled this trip due to weather that was supposed to be landing on a glacier via helicopter, so the paddle does eliminate the possibility of having a tour cancelled and not being able to experience the glacier.

Aug 2018 - Kathleen H.

Great tour with informative, enthusiastic, and competent guides. I'd highly recommend it.

Aug 2018 - Ajith D.

An awesome and must experience excursion. Loved every bit of it. The two excursion guides, Andrew & Matt were very helpful and informative. Kudos to both of them....Thanks for the great opportunity. Dupatis,Troy MI

Aug 2018 - Caryn C.

This was the best excursion we did while in our cruise. Mo and alli lead our group and made it fun. If you get a opportunity to do this excursion do it! The glacier is melting at a fast rate, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I really wanted to go into a ice cave, but there were none open when we went.

Aug 2018 - Wendy K.

Amazing experience of a lifetime!

Aug 2018 - JOSE J.

It was great to climb Mendenhall Glacier. Our guides Andrew and Matt were very safety conscious and attentive to every member in the group. Thank you very much for your humour although we did not understand very much because our lack of english understanding. We enjoyed paddling across the lake very much and steping on the ice and climbing the glacier was a superb experience. We would recomend this excursion to everybody who likes adventures; they provide all your equipment and you only will enjoy. It was a lifetime experience.

Jul 2018 - Seda E.

Fabulous and one of the most memorable parts of the Alaska trip. Like one of our guides said - "99% of the people who cruise to Alaska will see the Mendenhall Glacier from the visitors center, miles away. You're the 1% that gets to see it in person". You get to be that 1% - in the best sense of that often quoted percentage. This s a superb experience: Canoeing to it, walking on it and even being inside an ice cave. I still think of this amazing glacier and how I felt that day: Something bigger than me, all of us and above it all. The rowing part can get a bit tiring but it's well worth it.

Jul 2018 - Christina N.

This was a great excursion. The guides were knowledgeable and engaged with everyone appropriately. Only drawback was the rowing was a lot for some people, so most of the work was on a few people. I would suggest maybe adding a strong statement about the effort required before choosing excursion.

Jul 2018 - Vanessa A.

Magical is the only way to describe this excursion. We recommend 100%!!! Our pilot Rob was the best!!!!

Jul 2018 - Jim L.

An incredible experience! The guides helped make this adventure feel like a true success because of their genuine respect and appreciation for nature. The canoe ride is rejuvenating. Everything was awesome!!

Jul 2018 - Richard C.

Matt & Ryan gave us an unforgettable tour which was matched by thir enthusiasm and thoughtfullness. Would definatley recommend the trip.

Jul 2018 - Pamla W.

A special experience with excellent guides.

Jul 2018 - Alan K.

Excellent Guides, equipment and experience. The only opportunity we had to actually walk on a glacier during our stay. The experience was first rate. Although there were no ice caves to explore as pictured in the information. According to the guides there have not been any caves this season so perhaps the website can update the expectation that caves will be part of the experience. But paddling across the lake and hiking on the glacier was a great experience.

Jul 2018 - Stephen Y.

Great Day, Great Staff. A "must not miss" adventure.

Jul 2018 - Michael R.

The best excursion that we did in Alaska. The views getting to and hiking on the glacier cannot be described. Matt and Casey were great guides!

Jul 2018 - JOSE M.

Great tour made even better by our guides.

Jul 2018 - Julie I.

Great adventure. The staff was friendly.

Jul 2018 - Paula N.

Such an enjoyable experience from start to finish. Our guides Andrew and Ryan were very friendly and ensured everyone was comfortable, safe and enjoying themselves throughout. Would have been nice to see the ice caves but no fault of the tour that there weren't any accessible on the day we were there. Canoeing was probably the most strenuous part of the excursion but very manageable if you're relatively fit. The hike is by no means difficult. You are provided with spikes which are fantastic for walking on the ice and the guides take it slow and steady to make sure everybody is safe. This tour was without a doubt the highlight of our trip to Alaska!

Jul 2018 - Jason B.

This was the best excursion we've ever taken on any cruise or land vacation! Matt and Andrew were amazing guides and made for a really memorable experience. We especially appreciated the high quality gear we were given (boots, crampons, rain/wind jackets and pants, dry bags) and the snacks and hot drinks!

Jul 2018 - Kristin W.

We had a blast on our tour. We loved getting to so something more adventurous and off the beaten path than a typical tour. Our guides put safety and fun first and that was a great combo. Highly recommend!

Jul 2018 - Carolyn W.

Absolutely fabulous excursion. Paddling was a challenge but everyone pulled their own weight. Matt and Casey were excellent- steady calm and very entertaining. This glacier hike is an absolute must do!

Jul 2018 - Catherine L.

What an amazing experience!!! Our guides were excellent, attentive, informative, enthusiastic and helpful. We were very well outfitted and all 4 in our group were really glad we did this excursion.

Jul 2018 - Ursula B.

Can not recommend this tour enough! Our guides Matt and Ali were brilliant! They were knowledgable and made the trip really enjoyable. You could tell by their faces that they love what they do! We had an absolutely fantastic day and will never forget it!

Jul 2018 - Maria L.

This excursion was definitely worth the time and money. Our tour guides, Matt and Casey, were very organized, knowlegeable and helpful throughout the trip. I highly recommend this once in a lifetime experience.

Jul 2018 - Jiana E.

We had an incredible time! I will never forget the sight of the glacier when we first paddles around the cove, truly breathtaking. This excursion gives you such a unique perspective that you can't get elsewhere! Kacey and Ryan were extremely informative, fun and made you feel extremely safe.

Jul 2018 - Vielka I.

Excursion and guides (Ryan and Matt) were excellent. The glacier is much bigger when you actually get to stand on it. The guides were very knowledgeable and made the trip so enjoyable! No ice caves with was a bummer but had a great time otherwise.

Jul 2018 - Kara H.

We had a fantastic time! Andrew and Mo were terrific!

Jul 2018 - Kristina S.

Matt and Mo led our expedition canoeing across the lake and the hike up the glacier. It was a great excursion and we saw things we would not have seen any other way. They also had us back in plenty of time for our ship boarding. I would highly recommend this outing.

Jul 2018 - Todd F.

Our guides were just awesome

Jun 2018 - Christine B.

A fantastic excursion! Both Andrew and Casey were terrific guides. They were knowledgeable, communicative, helpful, and passionate about their jobs. We really enjoyed our tour and felt very safe and in good hands with both our guides. I liked the little snacks we were given to take with us and the hot drinks at the end were a nice touch.

Jun 2018 - Jill S.

This adventure was so such a great experience!!. Our guides, Casey and Matt, were fun, knowledgeable and experienced. I highly recommend this company and trip to anyone headed to Juneau Mendenhall Glacier.

Jun 2018 - Terri K.

The tour was beautiful. Boots and rain coats were provided. The canoe held 16 people so the rowing was shared by all. Very misleading to advertise ice caves when there currently are none and probably won't be any for a very long time. That was disappointing. The hike was amazing and the guides were well versed and prepared. I would recommend this tour.

Jun 2018 - Patrice T.

Wonderful trip, guides were informative and pleasant. Well worth the expense.

Jun 2018 - Mace K.

It's one thing to look at the glaciers from ship or shore, it's another thing to touch it. Thanks for a memorable experience!

Jun 2018 - Kirk M.

Great guides and good tour. They were entertaining and kept everyone engaged and working together, especially during the canoe trip. Didn't get to see an ice cave, but good experience on the glacier. Equipment provides was helpful and adequate. A great experience. Monet "Mo" and Ryan were wonderful!

Jun 2018 - Bruce S.

Excellent adventure. They take care of everything. They give you the appropriate clothing ,equipment and instructions. The walk up onto the glacier is a bucket list experience. The guides are helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this tour. As for the level of fitness, my wife and I are in our early 60's and in slightly above average shape for our age and we handled it fine, our friends are in their early 70's and were also fine.

Jun 2018 - Shannon D.

We loved this experience! Guides were excellent. We are an active family and this was just the perfect adventure.

Jun 2018 - Brian S.

This excursion was the perfect way to spend time in Juneau. Our ship arrived at 7:00 am, just in time for us to meet up with our tour guides at the dock. Although there weren't any ice caves at the time to explore, our guides made sure we had plenty of time to spend hiking the glacier and seeing all the nuances it has to offer. They were very organized and made sure we were back at the ship right on time to make the all aboard.

Jun 2018 - Jenny R.

We had an awesome time with our Mendenhall Glacier experience. Mo and Andrew were our tour guides and did an excellent job. They were both very knowledgeable and gave our group plenty of uniques opportunities on the glacier. We were not able to explore a cave due to the conditions of the ice; but they made sure that we saw some really cool features! And by shear luck, we got to hear and see a calving. And experience the wake from it as we were exiting the canoe onto the shore!

Jun 2018 - Bruce T.

Lots of fun. Andrew & Mo were great guides. Would recommend to anyone going to Juneau. Unfortunately there were no tubes to walk in, but that's not A.S.E.'s fault. I only wish the canoeing was shorter so we could've spent more time on the glacier. All in all, a once in a lifetime experience.

Jun 2018 - Laurence R S.

This was a highlight of our Alaskan Cruise. There were 20 of us in an First Nations long canoe and we paddled across Mendenhall Lake to the face of the glacier. They provided all the gear needed to keep us warm, dry and safe. After landing, we put on crampons and spent more than 90 minutes on the glacier. Our guides, Matt and Mo were very knowledgeable. They kept us entertained on the bus ride to the lake, told us stories on the lake, and educated us about the glacier and its many facets. They were delightful young single adults and were very solicitous of our comfort. They kept us moving without being controlling. I hope they get great bonuses at the end of the season, they deserve it. I would definitely recommend this tour to others. It was tied for first place as my wife's very favorite activity in Alaska. The tour operator delivered a great day for Alaska Shore Excursions. Kudos to all for a job well done. Larry from Salt Lake City, UT

Jun 2018 - Lee Ann J.

Our family had a great time hiking up on the glacier. The guides were fantastic and very informative.

Jun 2018 - Craig H.

What a great tour. Beautiful scenery and wonderful knowledgeable guides. Highly recommended.

Jun 2018 - James H.

We had a wonderful day and our guides Andrew and Casey were informative and helpful. The weather couldn't be better and the overall experience was worth the price.

Jun 2018 - Michael B.

Great tour company and guides. It was amazing. You must see this glacier up close.

Jun 2018 - Alan B.

Our tour guides Andy & Mo were awesome! They made the canoe ride to and from the glacier a great experience and were able to answer all of our questions. Unfortunately there were no ice caves when we arrived but that did not take away from the amazing experience. While we were on the glacier, a piece of it calved off and we got to canoe past large chunks of ice. The trip is something that I will never forget and I am so glad I booked this excursion!!

May 2018 - John H.

Incredible experience, the tour was far more than you could ever put into words. Starting with two exceptional staff members, Andrew & Ali. In the rain we geared up and headed to the boat where we were quickly coached in to paddling as a team as we sang and moved in harmony through floating pieces of the Glacier, by a Water Fall and then landing on shore at the foot of the Glacier. Plenty of treats and drinks for everyone. We pulled the Boat ashore and headed up the path along side a small stream to the bottom of the Glacier. Once again we geared up with spikes on our shoes and the Leaders took their positions, one leading and one trailing, first teaching us how to walk forward, backward and sideways. then we tackled the Mendenhall Glacier, it was spectacular, the views and the information shared by the two leaders will not soon be forgotten. As we moved off of the glacier towards the boat the leaders were great at reviewing everything we'd seen as well as generating enthusiasm for the return boat ride. They were so good we raced home in 35 minutes!!!!!! It was a blast!

May 2018 - James H.

Fantastic excursion. Great guides, well organized. Wonderful experience. All equipment was provided, including wet weather gear. Went in May and it was still chilly, but pleasant. Be prepared for the approximately 60 minute canoe paddle at the beginning and end of the trip. Would do it again!

May 2018 - Percy H.

Our favourite adventure from our vacation our guides Ryan & May were fabulous. We had a wonderful time

May 2018 - Lawrence R.

We went on the canoeing and Glacier hike. Mo, Allie and Ryan were our guides. We had a small group just me my wife and another couple, it was one of the first tours of the year. The guides were fantastic, they didn

Oct 2017 - ERH CHENG C.

The excursion was fantastic although the ice cave was melting a lot and did not able to enter the cave.

Oct 2017 - Cathy O.

Once in a lifetime experience will never forget

Sep 2017 - Verena C.

An excellent day, met promptly and driven to the lake. Great canyoning to and from the glacier. Guides very knowledgeable and safety conscious, would not permit us to walk through the crumbling ice cave with full explanination as to the risks. Walked on the glacier wonderful colours, just wish there had been more time to do slightly more exploring. Jhoian and Alison were both very knowledgeable and accommodating with photographs.... great to have hot chocolate on our return, thank you!

Sep 2017 - Nancy D.

Most amazing experience and great service

Sep 2017 - Michael P.

Excursion was fantastic. Is definently one of the best things we did in Alaska! The tour had everything we needed. Mikva and Allison were great guides and ensured we did everything and got back to thie ship in the half day time slot we had. The only area for improvement would be there website vs the ticket you get when you buy the experience. They had differing instructions for meeting time and location once off the ship, this needs to be fixed. Would do this excuse in again if a little cheaper too. Think more 0pp would be more reasonable.

Sep 2017 - Derek D.

My wife and i enjoyed this one because we're an outdoor family. canoeing across the lake and hiking on the glacier was fun. we got a bit of outdoor exercise which is nice while on a cruise. we were unable to do the ice cave under the glacier because of melting of the cave. it probably has collapsed by now. in the future there might be another cave system that gets exposed in the future. the water features on the top of the glacier were amazing. Mika and Allison were great guides

Sep 2017 - Di L.

Paul was our guide and he is amazing! He is very knowledgeable and respectful to everyone in the group. The most important, he is absolutely professional. Even we felt very sorry to see the ice cave was almost gone in Mendenhall, we felt happy because of our great guide! I think you management team who is reading this comment should pay him a lot of bonus !!

Sep 2017 - Amy V.

This was an awesome excursion! We couldn't have asked for a better day, trip, or guides. The "Ginga Ninja" and Allison were outstanding. If you have a chance to canoe on this lake and then hike this glacier, do it!

Sep 2017 - Steven H.

Amazing! Micah was an amazing guide along with his brother. Best excursion i have ever done.

Sep 2017 - Lisa Y.

I took the tour 08/31. Micah and Allison were AWESOME!! Please high five them for me. It was raining and cloudy, but the weather had nothing on that glacier! Micah and Allison shared facts about Alaska and the glacier and told cheesy jokes that kept everyone laughing and talking. All gear was provided - jacket, pants, clamps, helmet, and life jacket - and hot chocolate was waiting for us after our adventure. The glacier was monstrous and absolutely amazing. Don't wait people!! See the glacier with Micah and Allison! Thank you for keeping our group safe and showing us something truly unbelievable. 100% recommend!

Aug 2017 - Jennifer M.

We did a lot of excursions during the cruise and this was bar far, one of our favorites! I was skeptical because of the price and because they didn't work with the cruises but Josiah did an excellent job and we were able to spend 2-3 hours on the glacier. Unique and unforgettable experience...

Aug 2017 - Dorothy M.

We had a great time canoeing and hiking on the glacier. Josiah and Paul were great guides. They were very knowledgeable and very helpful. I had a blast and would definitely recommend doing this excursion.

Jul 2017 - Dinah S.

Fun excursion and great guides

Jul 2017 - Toni E.

Mikah and Griffin were our guides, and they were amazing! Safety was always the top priority, and they made sure to put our safety first. They checked out the ice caves for us and were very clear on were to go in the caves, as well as up on the glacier. They were really wonderful with my mom, who needed a bit of extra help up the trails and through the caves. Thanks, guys!

Jul 2017 - Kristina R.

I can't say enough about what an amazing experience this was! Paul and Allison were seamless in their instructions, explanations, and experience to lead us to this utterly magical place. They (and the other members of the team) had everything prepared and ready for us to enjoy this once in a lifetime experience. Patient and calm, I knew that my family and I were in expert hands from paddling, to hiking, to traversing across the glacier. Admittedly, I almost did not take the final hike on the glacier because I am afraid of heights. Paul and Allison assured me that I could do it and their encouragement and my faith in their obvious skills got me there! Thank you so much for the opportunity to create this memory and please take time to celebrate Paul and Allison for tremendous work they do and the fantastic way they represent your company. Sincerely - Kristina Richardson

Jul 2017 - Michael M.

Had a great time, weather was perfect, our guides were excellent, views were stunning and the glacier ice caves and hike excited the senses. The excursion is unforgettable.

Jul 2017 - Emily S.

We had a fantastic time visiting the glacier and loved the opportunity to go in the ice cave and on top of the glacier! The guides were very knowledgeable and the gear was very high quality.

Jul 2017 - Bryan J.

This was a very unique experience in Alaska! The ice cave was beautiful and walking unto the Glacier was a great way to truly experience it. Really need to have benches to sit on to put your gear on and off! It was very awkward doing this in a parking lot and in the rain.

Jul 2017 - Jolene P.

expensive excursion, but thanks for a memorable time!

Jul 2017 - James W.

My wife and I had an amazing time on this adventure, and it was the highlight of our Alaskan cruise. Micah and Paul were professional, funny, and very knowledgeable about all things related to the Mendenhall glacier and Alaska in general. We absolutely recommend this tour to anyone who is willing to go on a true active adventure. Bring a nice camera (waterproof if able), and don't worry about waterproof gear as they have plenty of high quality (REI, Northface, Marmot) gear available for use. They even provide a waterproof bag for all your personal stuff, as well as water and snacks. This is a "must not miss" tour while in Juneau.

Jul 2017 - Joan L.

Amazing, thrilling, and must-do are just a few words to describe this excursion. From boat pick up to boat drop off everything went smoothly. Our guides, Allison and Griffin, were fantastic. Well organized, efficient, helpful and funny, they gave my family the most thrilling trip of the cruise . The ice caves, the lake and the glacier were beautiful. If we make it back to Juneau this excursion (again) will be at the top of our list.

Jul 2017 - Justine H.

Micah and Griffin were awesome guides. They were not only funny but also took safety extremely seriously. This exceeded my expectations - I've done a glacier hike in Iceland and seen glaciers from a boat in Patagonia but this beat both of those experiences easily! It was intimate, challenging but in an exciting way, and truly a unique experience! It really made our alaska cruise worth it!

Jul 2017 - Alyson B.

Must do in Juneau! Incredible experience! RJ (the owner) picked us up as our timing didn't work out as expected. The guides were SUPER knowledgable and friendly and made everyone on our excursion feel safe and involved. Such a magnificent experience getting to kayak the river / see the ice caves and hike on the Mendenhall glacier. Must do!!

Jul 2017 - Melanie B.

This was the best excursion my friend and I booked! It is worth every penny. The guides were fantastic and very knowledgeable. The caves were stunning and the hike on top of them was equally impressive. I have recommended this excursion to many others and would absolutely do it again. Thanks for a wonderful day!

Jul 2017 - Kaitlyn F.

Micah and Josiah were amazing tour guides, extremely knowledgeable! Best excursion we did in Alaska!

Jul 2017 - Brad B.

The excursion was incredible and exceeded our expectations.

Jun 2017 - Bradley R.

Crazy Cool. It was surreal and amazing. The photos have everyone wowed. 1st class organization. I cannot rate this tour high enough. The ice caves should be on your bucket list. I flew through Juneau and spent the night just for it with 0 regrets. Very professionally ran, education, safety, customer service and helpfulness was always held to the highest standards.

Jun 2017 - Kristin P.

Such an awesome experience! By far one of the best things I have done! Our guides (Paul and Alison) were fantastic, full of lots of great info and very energetic! A must if you are in Juneau!

Jun 2017 - Shannon S.

We had so much fun on this excursion - also felt very far away from the cruisers and saw more of Alaska!

Jun 2017 - Alyssa F.

Josiah & Griffen were fantastic guides, and really knowledgeable about the glacier and surrounding ecosystem. Their excitement about the glacier was contagious & really showed how much they love what they do. I felt that they took really good care of our group, making sure that we got to see all of the best views, despite the number of other tours taking place at the same time.

Jun 2017 - Kelly R.

The best part of our vacation! Well worth the money. Our tour guides Paul and Griffin were awesome and always had our safety in mind. Would highly recommend it. Once in a lifetime experience!

Jun 2017 - Susan B.

Unbelievable!! Once in a lifetime event. It was something our family will never forget. Tour guides were excellent, even with all the bad jokes they tell

Jun 2017 - Susan H.

Wow, where to begin! This tour is a once in a lifetime experience. We canoed over a lake for about 45 mins looking at our incredible surroundings. When we got to land, we walked over some fairly rugged terrain towards the glacier. There were the ice caves...WOW! We explored the caves quite a bit. I was very happy that they didn't hold us back too much. We also hiked some on top of the glacier. This is the only part that I wish we could have gone farther, but for time and safety, we did not. Overall, this is an incredible experience. Don't miss out!!

Jun 2017 - Bette P.

This excursion was an experience of a lifetime! Very knowledgeable guides. They outfit you with all the gear you will need. The ice caves were AMAZING & melting as I type so take advantage of this opportunity while they are still there! Only 2 tour groups are aloud to actually hike up onto the glacier & this company is one of them. Book it now!!

Jun 2017 - Patricia A.

It was an absolutely amazing experience! I will remember it for the rest of my life ..... thanks Paul and Mika!

Jun 2017 - Greg F.

Amazing! I'd rate it more than 5 stars if I could. Josiah and Griffin were excellent guides and made this once in a lifetime experience all the better. We were promptly picked up near our cruise ship and took a short drive to the lake. Got suited up and off we went! I don't want to spoil the experience for anyone so I won't share the step by step details of what we did, but I will say that this tour is 100% worth the money!!! Bring your camera. Oh, and wear long (thick) socks. My husband wore ankle socks and the rubber boots took a little skin off his heal. Aside from that, it was a really enjoyable day! We even had a little time left over to shop and eat before having to get back on our ship.

We had such a great time on this tour! We took the 7:15am tour from the AJ dock. The van will pick you up right at the AJ dock, but some in our group took the shuttle from AJ to downtown. Our guide was great in getting everyone together despite the confusion, and provided commentary the entire drive to the lake. Once at the lake, we quickly got our gear (rain jackets, rain pants, boots and helmets, along with a dry back with snacks/water). We had a full group of 14 in the canoe, plus 2 guides. Once on the water, it was a nice paddle to the glacier (I would guess it was about 45 minutes). It was not as strenuous as I thought, but you will be a little sore after! The guides build in plenty of time along the way for breaks to take pictures. The paddle is so beautiful, and you pass the visitors center and Nugget Falls along the way. If you need more breaks along the way, you can simply stop paddling for awhile but most people didn't need it. Once at the glacier, our group pulled the boat ashore and the guides handed out walking sticks. The hike to the cave is not difficult or particularly steep, but it is rocky/uneven so parts of it are slow. We got to go into an ice cave for a bit and it was amazing - the pictures don't do it justice. After a bit of time in the cave, the guides handed out crampons and took us on a hike onto the glacier. It's a little steep, but not slippery. The views are unparalleled. I would recommend doing this early tour, because we were the only ones out there at the time (later on, more groups showed up). On the way back, we got more time in the ice caves. Our canoe ride back was under 40 minutes, including stops. We actually got back to our ship early - the whole excursion was very efficient. The guides were fantastic - extremely helpful, always answered questions, and most importantly, they made you feel safe the entire time. If you are interested in pictures, they will also happily take them for you. Lastly, if you have questions before booking or before the tour, customer service answers all questions very timely. Overall, the tour was a little expensive but so worth it, and I'd definitely recommend it!

Jun 2017 - Thomas C.

Of all the guided tours I have been on this has been one of the most beautiful places I have been too. Not to mention that our guides, Paul and Griffin, were amazing as well.

Jun 2017 - Bradley F.

We had several friends on this trip who booked more expensive and "inclusive" excursions with other companies but hands down their experience was not as great as ours, this tour is hands down worth the money and by far the best thing we did in Alaska. You really earn the right to see the glacier by canoeing to it. Once in a lifetime RJ and the crew were great and very accommodating.

Jun 2017 - Wesley B.

Awesome ice Cave. Walking on the glacier is truely a once in a lifetime experience for me. Tour guides were on time and provided for all our needs. Paddling the canoe was a bit frustrating. Three words: ICE CAVE=Awesomeness!

Jun 2017 - Barnett G.

I would give this excursion a five-star review. We got to see a magnificent waterfall and two mountain goats as a bonus. The ice caves were beautiful and the hike to and on the glacier was great. The guides were thoughtful and knowledgeable. They seemed truthful when telling us about the glacier and surrounding area. The guides took excellent care of us, they even had coffee and hot chocolate ready when we returned

Jun 2017 - Jeanette B.

Absolutely unique experience with a great guide (Griffin). We have never paddled before or climbed on a glacier. Breathtaking nature. There was excellent equipment which kept us dry and warm. We would recommend this tour to 100%.

Jun 2017 - Erik H.

I only have one word to describing our excursion. "Amazing". A must for anyone.

Jun 2017 - Regina P.

Words cannot describe this adventure!!! We are still digesting this once in a lifetime excursion!!! Griffin and Alison (I think that was their names) were informative and helpful. This activity is not for the weak. It includes two hours or rowing and almost 2 hour of climbing steep glaciers! The views are priceless. You won't believe your eyes!!!!!

Jun 2017 - Varsha T.

Great one

Jun 2017 - Amber C.

such an awesome excursion. highlight of our trip. guides were very knowledgeable, Josiah & Micah were awesome. We had an amazing time and saw things we would have never seen if we didn't pick this excursion. The pics of the ice cave are true to color. Hiking the glacier was breath taking.

Jun 2017 - Benjamin A.

We had an absolutely incredible experience on our Glacier Ice Adventure Tour. We started by canoeing across a glacial lake with stunning views of the icebergs and glaciers. Our guides, Paul and Griffin, then guided us through some amazing ice caves, and led us up onto the glacier itself! The scenery was absolutely breathtaking, and our guides were knowledgeable and supportive throughout the excursion. Be forewarned, this excursion is a bit of a workout! Between the paddling and glacier trekking, I certainly felt like I'd earned my dinner that night!

Jun 2017 - Nicholette K.

Just the most amazing thing we've ever done. Great excursion from start to finish. Really cool, friendly and super safety concious guides and the chance to experience a glacial cave was just incredible.

Jun 2017 - Rachel S.

May 2017 - Terri R.

What can we say! excellent, fantastic a memory not likely to be ever forgotten. We were lucky to go into an ice cave, but even if we hadn't just being on the glacier was stupendous. The colours, the team that took us all made a perfect Day out - thank you

May 2017 - Richard T.

The Day was great! Richard and Mariellen Pennsylvainia

May 2017 - Roisin H.

Fabulous. The paddle over was lovely, great hike up the glacier, good snacks. We got great photos and got back on the boat happy and tired :)

May 2017 - Seth H.

This was an amazing, once in a lifetime adventure. The guides were outstanding, friendly, and very informative. The views were breathtaking. Going into the ice cave was such an amazing experience that my husband and I are telling everyone about. It was extremely helpful getting transported to and from our cruise ship. Even the recommendation for dinner before getting on the boat was amazing. This is definitely an experience that I would STRONGLY encourage everyone to do if you are physically able to participate. The canoeing was not bad and definitely worth the time and energy. This experience definitely made our trip amazing!!!!!!!

May 2017 - Peter S.

An amazing adventure. HIGHLY recommended. Tour was fun and professional. Ice caves absolutely incredible.

May 2017 - Julie T.

Best experience ever! I booked two excursions through during our day in Juneau. The first was 8 am whale Watching and then the Mendenhall Glacier adventure. Our ship was a few minutes late and being so, we.missed our whale trip. I simply called and arranged to,reschedule . Later in the day I found out the two times would overlap. The company diffused what could have been a very stressful situation and turned it into the best day ever!! The tour, the staff, the glacier and the whales everything was outstanding!!

May 2017 - Anna P.

This was a great adventure. All of the equipment was very nice and works very well. And all of the guides were very nice and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this to anybody else interested in exploring the glacier.

May 2017 - Teri M.

Best shore excursion we could have ever chosen! My husband and I went on my birthday and the weather was perfect. We safely got to enter a beautiful ice cave and climb all the way to the top of the Mendenhall Glacier. The canoe ride was much further than anticipated but it was great exercise. Staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and put our safety first. We would do this excursion over and over if we could! This is a MUST DO!

May 2017 - Zohreh A.

This tour was simply out of this world. I highly recommend it. The scenery is so beautiful and just unbelievable. Our tour guides, Mika, R.J. , Alison, and Paul were fantastic and extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I would do this tour in a heartbeat again.

May 2017 - Iqbal S.

I've traveled around the world but the experience provided by this company was hands down one of the top!! Paul was super informative and hilarious ! Josiah made us feel like family and was helpful the entire way. I never thought I'd be able to get such a raw experience climbing onto a glacier and going inside the blue ice caves but these guys and their entire team made it possible and made it epic !!

Oct 2016 - Margaret F.

Would do it again and again if I could. Best excursion ever. The ice cave was amazing.

Oct 2016 - Cynthia W.

We had a great time from pick up to drop up the drive, canoe trip and hike to Ice caves was more than described - great trip excellent views would do again without in a heartbeat. Cindy

Oct 2016 - John G.

Amazing experience that incorporated many glacier activities into one! After looking through hundreds of Mendenhall excursions, my husband and I were so glad we chose this one! Christina our tour guide was fantastic - funny and very informative! Highly suggest this tour!

Oct 2016 - Wendy M.

We had an amazing time canoeing on Mendenhall Lake, exploring the ice caves and hiking on the glacier! Our guides Kristina and Nick were awesome and the ice caves spectacular! A definite highlight of our cruise!

Oct 2016 - Brianna B.

We were hesitant to go on this excursion because it set our budget off a bit but we are SO GLAD that we did it! It was by far our favourite part of our week in Alaska, the most unique thing we have ever done, and we will probably never get an experience like this again. The tour company thought of everything for us. Gear, snacks, water, waterproof bags. We didn't have to worry about anything other than paddling and taking pictures. And if you are wondering about the pictures you are seeing of the caves... they really are that blue, and the pictures from your own camera/phone will really look just like that. I was concerned that they were tinted and photoshopped, but no! This is real life! It was otherworldly! We were breath taken by the whole thing. Then to top it off we got to go on top of the glacier and look around at the lake and the waterfall that we just paddled across. Our guide Christina was wonderful.

Sep 2016 - DAVID C.

Such an amazing experience. It was hands down our favorite excursion we did the in Alaska (and we did a lot of really cool things). When we got there they provided us with GREAT name brand gear (not the cheap ponchos you normally receive from excursions) then we headed into the canoe and paddled our group to the glacier. From the hike on the mendenhall glacier to the ice caves EVERY second was breathtaking. Excellent guides! The perfect balance between between having safety from a guide and also feeling free to explore.

Sep 2016 - Siu Ling L.

Though disappointed that the ice cave wasn't safe enough to enter, we were thrilled by the experience of walking on a glacier. We had to canoe to the mouth of the glacier. The ride across the lake was pretty amazing. But standing on a glacier was simply unbelievable. Our guide Z was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. All gear was provided. Small things like the hot chocolate at the end of the trip showed that they really put thought into making the trip a five star experience. We had an adventure of a lifetime!

Sep 2016 - Richard B.

A stunning experience.

Sep 2016 - Jeffrey G.

Awesome trip!! To say I've walked on a glacier is a bucket list item checked off. Zee did an outstanding job as our guide. The gear provided was top of the line. Would do again & recommend to anyone who can paddle.

Sep 2016 - BRYAN B.

Great excursion - excellent guides well organized, on-time, fantastic although a bit pricey

Sep 2016 - Dave W.

This excursion was a once in a life time adventure for my wife and I! Words really can not explain how awesome this excursion was and being able to see a part of nature that changes daily was something that I thought that I would never have a chance to see! On top of that we had 2 amazing tour guides! Zee and Christina were so funny, friendly and ensured that everyone on our tour had the best time possible. The one thing that I thought stood out from the rest of everything was that both tour guides heavily focused on was the safety of everyone on the tour. Being on a glacier with unpredictable conditions really needs someone to be looking out for signs of danger and both of them really made that a top priority. Both my wife and were highly impressed with the tour and the company that we will be making sure to pass along our wonderful experiences to everyone we know! Please make sure to take some time to fully recognize both Zee and Christina!

Sep 2016 - James K.

Great, Great, Great! Do again in a minute. Z our guide was fun to be with.

Sep 2016 - Cathie P.

This was a great tour! Hiking underneath the Mendenhall Glacier is as good as it sounds and the tour guides, Z and Nick, were awesome. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who does not mind putting out some physical effort to get to an exceptional place.

Sep 2016 - Jaclyn T.

This was the best excursion we did on our trip. The two tour guides Nick and Christina were ver knowledgeable about the glacier and the area and we trusted hiking with them up and down the glacier safely. The ice caves were amazing and were the highlight of the excursion. They provided waterproof boots, jacket, and pants, walking guide, life jacket, dry pack to keep your snacks and devices dry during canoe ride and the claws for boots when walking on the ice. Everything they provided was good quality (North Face & XtraTuf) and in good condition, which was a nice surprise. This excursion is very active and requires physical ability to canoe for 2 hours and hike the glacier and mountain for over an hour. We would definitely recommend this to anyone who is not scared of an adventure!

Sep 2016 - Steven C.

Fabulous excursion - better than expected. Guides were pleasant and knowledgeable, logistics of finding tour and getting to and from were efficient. If anything, though, the physical nature of the event was "undersold" a bit. Not too strenuous for me but could have been for others.

Sep 2016 - Erin G.

Worth the hike!

Sep 2016 - Senlin Q.

I hope I could stayed longer in the ice cave.

Sep 2016 - Brett L.

We were so excited for this excursion and it did NOT disappoint. Nick and Z were great guides. Very patient and accommodating. The ice cave was incredible and the canoe ride over was great. So scenic and just awed by God's beauty. Thanks for a great time.

Sep 2016 - Kasara M.

AMAZING! Best shore excursion ever. Only 4 of us in our tour, so the paddle was a little intense and definitely took an hour, but the glacier trek and ice caves MORE than made up for it. Our photos make everyone jealous. Definitely the best shore excursion ever.

Sep 2016 - Gregory R.

This was an excellent excursion. The glacial cave was unbelievable! It should be noted that you should be in good shape to participate.

Sep 2016 - Gustavo R.

Our guides were excellent and paid a lot of attention to safety standards. It was originally scheduled as a kayak trip to the glacier but due to rough weather, the group went by kayak. Glad we did. The excursion was absolutely amazing. The tour of the ice caves was spectacular. This tour did require strenuous hiking so not for the faint at heart but well worth the hike.

Aug 2016 - Canion B.

Had a great time on this trip and took some really cool photos. It is a little strenuous as you canoe for an hour or so each way, and you scale down a soft dirt path, but no one on our trip missed anything. Again, great crew, great time, and definitely not something to miss.

Aug 2016 - Casey L.

We had a great time canoeing to and hiking in Mendenhall Glacier's ice caves. The operation is really well run with all of the supplies provided. The only downside was we were prepared for temperamental Alaskan weather and we had a gorgeous sunny day with little wind, so we had to strip off a few layers.

Aug 2016 - Frederick C.

great guides, great adventure. we had wonderful weather and nice workout. Ice caves are like being on another planet. simply mesmerizing and mysterious. thank you guys great addition to our trip.

Aug 2016 - Steve J.

Great experience. would do it again. guides were excellent.

Aug 2016 - David Y.

This is an amazing trip. Until you actually get on the glacier you have no idea of the size and beauty. Our guides were great - Z and Kristi: they were fun, flexible and knowledgeable. We were on a cruise so also really enjoyed getting to do something a little more active. Best excursion we did.

Aug 2016 - William R.

Loved this adventure. The ice cave was amazing and the crew was great. Highlight of my Alaska trip.

Aug 2016 - Urvashi P.

Aug 2016 - Vicki D.

This is an amazing once in a lifetime tour. It is strenuous but worth every bit of effort. The ice cave was amazing and the colors were unbelievable. Everyone who saw my pictures wants to go and do this trip!

Aug 2016 - Carol C.

Best thing we did! The trip was not too hard for this out of shape 60yo - guides were great - shocked that a few people didn't really paddle, but refuse to let that damper the great experience!

Aug 2016 - David S.

One of the highlights of our trip. I was a little apprehensive about the strenuous nature of the excursion particularly for my wife, and in fact the guides scared her off before we started the canoe portion. It turned out to be the right decision and I am grateful they were honest enough and weren't out just to capture every dollar and potentially ruin the experience for others. The canoe portion was difficult particularly when you are rowing against the wind and can't switch sides But it was truly worth it, the hike was not to bad although a little narrow in spots and walking in the glacier was pretty cool with the crampons. We were lucky, the ice cave that was formed was AMAZING. The access, color and floor of ice was just beautiful we got to spend a good amount of time and take plenty of pictures both in the ice cave and on the glacier. We never felt rushed and the guides Christina and Kelly were fun and looked out for our best interests. I would highly recommend as a must excursion

Aug 2016 - Ana M.

Amazing!!! Our two guides were excellent. All the equipment is brand new and the pick up was on time. The caves are incredible and the scenery in the canoe getting there is beautiful; It's worth it!!! Great experience.

Aug 2016 - Judy S.

We absolutely loved this tour and appreciated very much our 2 great guides! They were incredibly patient! To visit the cave was fantastic!

Aug 2016 - Kelly S.

It was a really great experience. Definitely a workout for the arms! I was disappointed that I wasn't able to go into a cave, but I do understand the safety aspect and I appreciate them looking out for us. Still sucked though, but even with that downfall it was still an overall great experience and the two guides were amazing.

Aug 2016 - David E.

Aug 2016 - Joseph S.

Ice cave was remarkable and canoe trip fun. Guides should be given gold stars for hard work and enthusiam. one in a lifetime experience

Aug 2016 - Jordan S.

Kelli and Z did a great job as our tour guides! It was a phenomenal trip and well worth the time and money!

Aug 2016 - Jon K.

This was one of the most amazing experiences of my life! The cave we explored was incredible and had ice beneath our feet as well as all around us! The pictures from the cave turned out great with the beautiful glacier blue! We also were able to hike on the glacier to get some great views of the glacier crevices. The guides were fun, kind, and knowledgeable. The gear that they loaned us was very high quality which made the rain a non-issue. When we got back to the cruise ship that night, the others in my group had all wished that they spent their day in Juneau doing this excursion instead of the others they had chosen. I absolutely would recommend this tour if you can find it in your budget.

Aug 2016 - Margaret M.

The most amazing place to stand, inside the ice cave .. our gudie was great, The tour from start to finish was wonderful.. there was only 5 of us which i think made it more incredible,, only 6 of us including guide in the beautiful ice cave ..a little pricy but worth every cent. I've been to alaska now 5 times and that was the most amazing thing we've ever done.

Aug 2016 - George S.

This was a once in a life time experience, beautiful and something very few people can say they have seen. Anyone can take a helicopter to the Glacier. On this tour you are in it, on it and totally immersed in it. This tour is some what physically demanding but we are in our 50's active and had no problems.

Aug 2016 - Marissa N.

This excursion was amazing. Zee and Nick were very professional and great guides and my sister and I got to see an ice cave.

Aug 2016 - Edward H.

Awesome excursion. To see the inside of a glacier was spectacular. As was Z, our guide. She did a great job explaining and answering every question. My wife and I would highly recommend this excursion. Laine & Tracie.

Jul 2016 - Howard B.

This excursion was AWESOME! From canoing across the lake, to hiking along the glacier, to entering the blue ice cave - my whole family loved it. Our guides, Christina & Z were fabulous, and the ice cave was the most amazing thing we've ever seen. I want to go back!!!

Jun 2016 - DAVID L.

We thoroughy enjoyed our glacier experience. There was a flood on the glacier just before we arrived and therefore were unable to visit the ice caves or walk directly on the glacier but the paddle, guided narrative and hike along the glaciers edge was something we will never forget. Our guides were Superb! Thank you girls!!

Jun 2016 - Mattana Y.

This is a great tour! Our family of 4 (with 12-yr old and 13-yr old kids) love it. The 5-hour adventure has gone by so quickly with a lot of fun throughout. Snacks were provided in a water-proof bag. LOVE WALKING ON GLACIER AND EXPLORE ICE CAVE!

May 2016 - Esther C.

We were sorry about the change in tour because of the flooding, but the staff did a good job of communicating about it and adapting. The guides were helpful and fun. The glacier was wonderful.

May 2016 - Mark H.

FABULOUS! Friendly and knowledgable guide, incredible view from part way up the glacier, loved the cave and can't get over the color inside. Supplied well for each part of journey. Would do this again and again and I am a fifty year old woman.

May 2016 - Praxedes T.

Even with the ice caves inaccessible, this was still an amazing excursion!

May 2016 - Michael S.

What a tremendous experience. Spectacular views from the canoe on the way to the ice cave. The ice cave was such a memorable experience. Everyone in our group of 4 agreed it was the highlight of our trip!

May 2016 - Steven F.

This excursion was the best thing I have ever done in my life. The tour was very well prepared. They provided waterproof sacks for your belongings as well as a plethora of healthy snacks and water. The gear they provided was also brand new, we were outfitted with helmets, life vests, waterproof pants, boots, cramp-ons. They were prepared for everything. The guide was very professional and knowledgeable. The ice caves were magnificent. I wish we were able to go in just a little deeper into the caves... but we weren't allowed for safety reasons.
