Sitka Tongass National Forest Guided Hike

Excursion Overview

Traverse the nation's largest National Forest

Take part in a two-hour adventure through Southeast Alaska's Tongass National Rainforest. Your expert guide awaits your arrival to Sitka, ready to share and explore the rainforest with a small group. Learn about the way the mountains, forests, and ocean have been traditionally used for sustenance, foraging, and hunting by the Tlingit people.

After a brief safety overview, lace up those walking shoes and begin your trek. Your local guide will point out the Russian Bishop's house, Crescent Harbor, and the Tlingit Totem Pole before bringing you to the forest. Spend 90 minutes exploring the rainforest.

Depending on the group's experience and trail conditions, there is an option to follow a boardwalk into the muskeg (swamplands), or a more rigorous route that climbs up into the mountains. For those joining this excursion, all guests should have the ability to walk on medium-grade hills, gravel paths, and wooden boardwalks for up to 2 hours.

Reid and his team were so wonderful, so friendly. It was decently easy to find the assigned meeting point and just a short walk through town to the hiking trail. The hike was not at all difficult if you are used to walking, although the team was very helpful and patient to the few older and less in shape members of our group. Overall very lovely!
