Skagway is known to be a windy place and the local tour provider will ensure your ride is comfortable and enjoyable. Full refunds are granted should the weather prevent your excursion from setting sail. The tour provider will make the final determination on the day of the excursion.

Layered clothing is always recommended for Alaskan weather. We recommend you wear closed-toe shoes and weather-appropriate attire.

The term "ocean raft" refers to the inflatable tubes around the vessel, but with its deep 'V' aluminum hull and triple 250-horsepower engines, it's more like a speedboat. The inflatable collar ensures stability and buoyancy, making it one of the safest vessels in extreme sea conditions.

We recommend bringing a camera or cell phone for photos, which can be stored in the exposure suit pockets. Also suggested are:

Sunglasses or prescription eyewear

Any necessary medication for the 2-hour tour

A beanie-style cap (avoid baseball caps as they may blow away)

Guests are outfitted with a one-piece exposure suit to wear over their clothing, ensuring warmth and dryness throughout the tour. This suit also acts as a USCG-approved flotation device. Optional balaclavas, gloves, and goggles are provided, with the goggles designed to fit over prescription eyewear. As the goggles are not tinted, it’s recommended to bring sunglasses to minimize glare from the water, even on cloudy days.

The exposure suits provided are designed to keep you warm and dry. While you may experience some ocean spray in windy or wavy conditions, the gear will ensure you're protected throughout the tour.

Seasickness is rarely an issue on this tour, as the location is over 100 miles from the open ocean, where large swells are uncommon. When waves do occur, they are wind-driven and closer together, causing less motion than open ocean swells. The tour hugs the shore, and the open boats provide fresh air and stunning views of the coastline. However, if you are very sensitive to motion, it's recommended to take motion sickness medication beforehand or bring some just in case.

Each tour includes a Captain and Naturalist to enhance your experience. The boat stops every five minutes for photo opportunities and to allow the Naturalist to share insights on the wildlife and scenery. The crew is available to answer questions, take photos, or chat anytime.

The raft is an open vessel with seating for 17 to 25 guests, and all seats offer great views!

The front seats are the most thrilling, offering a bouncy ride and a close-up feel of the ocean action, while the back is smoother for a calmer ride. The middle offers a balanced experience. For closer views of the shoreline, sit on the Starboard side, and for expansive views of the Fjord and mountains, choose the Port side. Halfway through, we play a game of musical chairs, allowing everyone to switch seats and experience it all!
