Skagway Yukon Discovery & Sled Dog Tour

Enjoy the dogsled ride of a lifetime! Miles of pristine wilderness, crystal lakes, waterfalls and glaciers (weather permitting).

Your all-day Yukon adventure begins as you parallel the 1898 Gold Rush Trail over the White Pass summit into Canada's legendary Yukon by mini-coach leaving behind the coastal rainforest and into the Boreal forest wilderness of the north. We watch for wildlife like bears all along the route. Sites along the way include Pitchfork Falls, the Welcome to Alaska sign, Summit and Divided Lakes, Tormented Valley of sub-arctic alpine tundra, panoramic views at Lakes Tutshi and Tagish. Bove Island, the quaint village of Carcross, Bennett Lake and the Carcross Desert, affectionately known as the world's smallest, and gorgeous green Emerald Lake.

Your stop at the dog camp begins with a quick trip down the trail in our ATV, a custom built dog training vehicle. An experienced musher will explain the benefits of conditioning race dogs using our specific training methods and equipment while guests can enjoy a slice of the Yukon wilderness. This short ATV ride will finish at the Checkpoint Meet and Greet, where authentic race dogs will be waiting for one-on-one time with our visitors. Guests will be encouraged to meet with accomplished race dogs and pose for pictures on a genuine dog sled and view equipment used in the Iditarod.

You will be invited inside the puppy pen to take part in the socialization of the puppies-- the next generation of canine athletes.

Please note: Your guide reserves the right to cancel the dogsled portion of this tour due to warm weather for the health and safety of the sled dogs. In this case an alternate ATV and musher meet and greet with the dogs will be offered.

Lunch and Yukon museum admission included. Lunch includes BBQ Chicken meal with sides of potato, coleslaw, rolls, donuts, tea/coffee. A vegetarian curry option is available to be ordered at the start of the tour.

Passport or Passport ID card (and Visas - USA and Canada if necessary - single entry Visa is OK) are required for all passengers 16 and over. Children 15 and under are required to have a Passport OR an original raised seal birth certificate (USA citizens only). No photocopies of any identification is allowed. No charge for children under 2. Child tickets for ages 2-12.

Children traveling with only one parent or without both parents must have a permission letter from the absent parent/parents, giving permission to the person bringing the child on tour to allow them to go to Canada with that person. Documentation should be signed with parent name, address, cell phone contact number and give the child's legal name and person's legal name they are traveling with. Very good

Sep 2019 - Carolyn D.

We really had a great time on this excursion with our tour guide, Max. He told us all about the area, took us to spectacular sites that looked like postcards. We also appreciated how he always offered to take pictures for anyone, anytime. He was one of the best tour guides we've ever had. The sled dog tour was also fun and the lunch provided was very good! I'd highly recommend this tour!!!

Sep 2019 - Jeanette C.

So happy we chose this excursion. It was more than we expected. Beverly was so knowledgeable and shared so much with us. She made so many great stops along the way and gave us the best opportunities for memorable photos along the way. Lunch was good and the dog sleds and cuddling with the puppies were awesome. Definitely recommend this excursion as one of the best!

Sep 2019 - Christin D.

Definitely the highlight of our honeymoon! Mike was our tour guide, and he was the BEST! I for sure recommend this to ANYONE who is wanting to see the best parts of Alaska and Canada as well as getting the change to love on some pups.

Sep 2019 - Irene Y.

A must do! Breath taking scenery plus cute puppies! Great excursion for kids. Our guide was phenomenal.

Sep 2019 - Andrea B.

We had a great trip but we would have liked if we would spend more time on every stop, for example in Carcross Desert. We couldn't have the chance to explore and walk around. The dog sled experience was wonderful. We enjoyed the time we spent with the puppies. The only thing we have to comment is that the food was not good, specially the vegetarian option. It had a lot of curry and was almost impossible to eat.

Sep 2019 - Gary Q.

Our tour guide was the topping to a perfect day. The Yukon was worth coming back to multiple times in our future.

Aug 2019 - Linda H.

Excellent tour with a most informative guide (Brooke). Her love and passion for the area definitely showed through her narration. The dog sled substitute was much better than the one that was canceled. Thank you for the most enjoyable experience.. this was my 3rd trip to Skagway and the best one yet. Linda

Wonderful guide

Aug 2019 - Lorrie W.

One of the best excursions we did in Alaska. Great guide that was very knowledgeable and entertaining.

Aug 2019 - Renee C.

Loved our guide Candice -- thanks for a wonderful day. Visiting the Yukon was a highlight of our cruise. Thanks for thinking safety first (and avoiding the aggressive bear) and giving us great photo opportunities. The sled dog visit was terrific -- love those puppies!!!

Jul 2019 - Douglas C.

What a great tour. Our guide John was Awsome

Jul 2019 - Eric S.

We thought we had seen the best of Canada when we did an earlier train and bus tour through British Columbia and Alberta, including the mighty Rockies. But our excursion into Yukon was just as amazing! Casey was an excellent tour guide who was entertaining, energetic and very accommodating with our requests for photographic stops. We liked the smaller tour group of 10 on a mini-bus as that gave us more flexibility to stop at places for photographs. It was also faster hopping on/off than a larger bus. We enjoyed the stop at the town of Carcross and its quirky shops. The sled dog tour was disappointing as it was a bit too much commercialised and due to the warmer day, the dog sled was not operating - went on a very average ATV loop instead.

Jul 2019 - Heriberto V.

It was awesome. The guide was excellent

Jul 2019 - Rosemary H.

This was an exceptional tour. Brooke was very friendly and informative. I enjoyed the scenery and the dog sled tour. There were just enough stops along the way not be get bored with the long drive. It was well worth the money and the combination of the white pass and dog sled was very good

Jul 2019 - Ke C.

Great view in Yukon. Unfortunately it was too hot for dog, dog sled was changed to ATV.

Jul 2019 - Maureen B.

I went on 4 excursions during my Alaska cruise - this was tied with ziplining in Ketchikan for my top picks. Full day of sight seeing. Our guide was Mike and he was very knowledgeable and full of bad jokes (which I intend to use at home!). We made several stops along the way - great scenery. We saw 3 bears, which was surprising given how warm it was that day. I highly rec this tour, and our guide, Mike!

Jun 2019 - Kristy M.

We were a group of 13, very happy with this trip. The view is breath taking.

Jun 2019 - Rachel B.

Our tour guide was great! Great experience! We saw a lot of bears.

Jun 2019 - Jennifer M.

We were on Princess and chose to not use their excursions. We were with a much smaller group that was a mix of passengers from different ships. Patrick was our driver and tour guide, he did a great job of talking about the areas we saw. The advantage to being in a small group is flexibility. When someone yelled bear we are able to turn around and go investigate. We saw 2 black bears along the Klondike Highway. We chose the sled dog option and I am glad we did. It was fun "running" with the dogs. It was the best part of Carcross, in our opinions. We very much enjoyed the excursion.

Sep 2018 - Carena E.

Well organised tour, very informative.

Sep 2018 - Michael L.

The guides on this tour are awesome , so informative , so much to see in such little time . Dog sled only 15 minutes but amazing .

Sep 2018 - Kerry R.

Michael was hilarious, informative and we could tell he loved what he does. Our group of 6 we're blown away by the beauty of the Yukon and enjoyed our short time to experience the musher dog sled ride and puppies. We were so fortunate have time to stop and see a bear right off the road. Two moose could be seen from a distance in the water with binoculars. The lunch was good and the staff, friendly. Our smallish group of 11 (and Charley-dog) was a great size to make quicker stops and keep ahead of the other larger groups. I highly recommend this excursion. The tour operator was the best! 6.5 hours passed so quickly, thanks to a comprehensive, fun tour and the best tour guide. Thanks!

Aug 2018 - Diane R.

I loved the variety that this tour offered. The scenery was amazing and our guide was knowledgeable and had a great sense of humour. The dog sledding was a great experience and the dogs were adorable.

Jul 2018 - Jerry T.

Great day lovely guide. Lots of fun!

Jul 2018 - Rebecca H.

We would have liked a longer dog sled ride.

Jul 2018 - Jessica C.

We went on our trip back in June. Our tour guide was phenomenal! Brooke was very knowledgeable and funny. My 11 year old son and I have a great time. We saw some many beautiful sites along the way to the dog sledding.

Jul 2018 - Jeannie B.

Our guide, Mike, was excellent and made the tour a lot of fun. The bbq lunch was good, and the dog sled portion was completely worth it. A great family experience.

Jul 2018 - Keith P.

What an experience! The dogs were super excited to pull the carriage! Our tour guide Brooke was amazing. I definitely suggest this excursion and would do it again!!

Jul 2018 - Heather B.

Our group of 11 had a wonderful time on this excursion. We were sad that we didn't get to do the sled dog portion, but a heatwave is out of your control. Before arriving home there was already an email indicating that a refund was issued for the sled portion. Our guide JJ was so much fun!! She was very knowledgeable and had a true love for the area. As a travel agent, I send many clients on Alaska cruises and I will be sure to recommend you to them.

Jul 2018 - Lindsay W.

We loved this excursion! There were 9 in our party ranging in age from 6 to 70 and everyone enjoyed it! The views were gorgeous!! Mike, our tour guide, was awesome! He was so informative and taught us a lot about the Yukon, but he was also funny and kept us entertained. We had a great time on this excursion!

Jun 2018 - Kathleen F.

Although the dog sled ride was really short, just getting to the location was worth the trip. Amazing back country. Even saw bears and mountain goats. A must excursion. Best thing was our tour guide Mike. Funny and full of knowledge.

Jun 2018 - Dean S.

It was a hot day, so dogs could only run a short time. Feeling the power of 16 dogs is pretty amazing and was a great experience seeing them up close and in action. Liked the museum that was in the complex.

Jun 2018 - Paul H.

Our tour guide Mike made it a memorable experience. We had a great time!

Jun 2018 - Phyllis G.

This tour was awesome! Brooke was an outstanding guide. She had so much information and you could tell how much she loved what she did and how much Alaska means to her. We had four children with us ages 8 to 15 and they were mesmerized even though it was a long tour for them. The sites we saw were beautiful and awe inspiring and the highlight was the Mushers Camp and the dogs. It was an incredible day with magestic views of natural wonders Would definitely recommend this trip.

Jun 2018 - Shannon M.

Heidi was a phenomenal guide. So many interesting and personal stories. The options for pictures and information about the Yukon was really in depth. Felt like we learned more about life in Alaska on this tour than any guide book could provide. The sled dog ride, while short, was the highlight of a 7 day cruise for our 5 year old.

Jun 2018 - April S.

Patrick made this trip so fun. Told us all the insider tips and showed us all around. Photo stops along the way made for some priceless memories.

Jun 2018 - Michael S.

Very good I enjoy the staff and I had fun

Great day, enthusiastic and informative driver/tour leader

May 2018 - McConnell O.

Had a fantastic time. I would definitely do it again.

May 2018 - Phyllis W.

OMGooooonesssss! Talk about great weather. The tour guide Candace was great!!!! We were a group of 25 and I must say that we had a fabulous time. On our way back to the ship we were presently surprised to see a real Brown and Black Bear, and a Mouse! They were right outside of our bus and we have some great photos of each of them.

May 2018 - Veronica F.

Excellent tour would recommend to any one.

May 2018 - Steven F.

We enjoyed the trip to the sled dog tour. Mike the bus driver was a joy to be with. He told us about places and history of the area. If you go, request Mike, you won't regret it. Lots of stops on the way to the camp for pictures. Taking a ride on a dog sled was exciting, it's well worth the money. I would recommend this trip.

May 2018 - Bridget A.

This was amazing. I was expecting a bus ride to the kennel and then a ride on the sled. Instead we had a phenomenal tour with Brooke. She was outstanding! The ride was scenic and informational. We stopped at several sites for pictures. She even turned around for us to see a bear! Lunch was delicious! Feeding all of the other animals was comical and the Mountie Museum and taxidermy displays we're great! I highly recommend this tour!!!!!!!!

May 2018 - James T.

Unfortunately on this tour, we were unable to go on a sled dog ride due to unexpected weather changes, a bit disappointing. However our guide was very informative and we were able to stop for photo opportunities often. Really enjoyed our lunch.

Sep 2017 - Marcia D R.

Your trip was fantastic we enjoyed it very much the scienery was great Rod and Marcia Richardson

Aug 2016 - Joel A.

Brook did a wonderful job giving us information and making this tour special. Caribou Crossing was a delight, and the dog sled ride was such fun! The scenery was spectacular. We did get held up at the Canadian border going in tot he Yukon, and it caused us to be running late. That worried some of us toward the end, when it looked like we'd be running really close getting back on the ship. We made it with 30 minutes to spare though. Enjoyed it all!

Aug 2016 - Marissa N.

This was a great tour. My sister and I got to see some great scenery on the road up to Yukon. However, I wish that we had more time at Caribou Crossing to see the animals.

May 2016 - Praxedes T.

The sights are simply unbelievable

May 2016 - Jasvinder K.

I and my grand daughters enjoyed it very much. Our guide was fantastic. She was very good with children. I loved that. However it was a little too long. I give 4 stars.

May 2016 - Maureen S.

We LOVED our experience. From the meeting point by the cruise ship to the end of the day, we had permanent smiles. Tyler was our driver and guide for the day. He was funny, patient, and knowledgeable and got along well with our group of 16 travelers. He even gave us some Sourdough Starter he had made. We loved the time we spent with the dogs and we all loved the sled ride. The lunch was delicious. The views were spectacular and we were comfortable the entire time driving. This was a highlight of our Alaska trip. A good time was had by all, from ages 3 to 45. We highly recommend this excursion and Tyler for a guide!

May 2016 - Winifred B.

Outstanding. Our guide, Thomas, made the excursion. Country is beautiful and the Dog Sled review and ride were fantastic.
