Excursion Overview

Skagway adventure hike with mesmerizing viewpoints

Hike Porcupine Mountain trailhead on a guided journey through the Tongass Rainforest. Immerse yourself in the incredible scenery of beautiful, Southeast Alaska. Head out of town on a historic driving tour of downtown Skagway as you continue along the Klondike Highway. Your guide will regale you with the local history of the Klondike Gold Rush and the natural history of the area.

Upon arrival at the trailhead and a safety briefing, grab your trekking poles and begin the ascent. Spend close to two hours surrounded by the snow-capped mountains of the White Pass. Your expert guide will stop to share their knowledge about the native flora, fauna, and to describe the amazing glacial history of Alaska.

We booked an 11:00 hike and received a text that our time had been changed to 7:15. That was a little irritating initially but it turned out in our favor. My husband and I ended up the only ones on the group hike. We truly enjoyed our morning. We are 47 and 55, moderately active and had no problems with this hike from a difficulty level. There were some portions that were steeper than others, so I wouldn't recommend this if you are not already somewhat active. If you are extremely active you might be a little bored. But for us, this was perfect. The views were great and we loved getting into the nature instead of viewing it from a window seat. The guide was nice and gave us some good recommendations. After the guided hike we did some exploring on our own. What a great day!

Overall this was a great excursion! Our guide Smiley was very knowledgeable about the area and pointed out various plants and had interesting stories/factoids. I'm not sure I'd bill this as a "moderate" hike as it was basically entirely up the side of the mountain, but thankfully, it was just my Husband and I, so our guide was able to go at our pace. All in all, beautiful views and glad we did it but we both had some pretty sore legs the next day!

Absolutely loved the guides Cammi and Michala. (Sorry not sure of spellings). The hike was fabulous and a good workout too. Due to there only being 4 hikers the group moved quicker and we were able to get further up the hike trail. Spectacular scenery. Our guides were knowledgeable and fun. Would do again!
