Saxman Totem Village Tour in Ketchikan

One of the most popular sites in Ketchikan is the Saxman Totem Village. This is Ketchikan's largest totem park with 29 authentic totems carved by Tlingit and Haida natives. The poles were moved here from the original site in the 1930's and have been restored by native carvers. These totem poles are a must see when visiting Ketchikan.

The next part of your journey will continue on to Herring Bay, a quaint area that takes you far away from the crowds and people. A small inlet cove that will allow sights and sounds of the beautiful wildlife that only Ketchikan can offer. During Salmon season, Black Bears, Eagles, Herons and Seals are often spotted in this area. Be sure to keep your eyes wandering and your cameras close!

Your next stop will include a visit to Rainbow Falls. Immerse yourself in the beauty of a 100 foot waterfall surrounded by a rainforest. This hidden treasure is well known by the locals, but not by tourists.

Your last stop of the day will be at Creek street, where your guide will talk about the ladies of the night of years ago. You'll then have the option to go through world famous Dolly's House Museum or we'll return you to your ship.

Please note: Children prices are valid for ages 4-12. Under 4 are free.

Beutiful tour

Aug 2018 - Maurice B.

Tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. Got to see eagles and bears with wildlife extension; Saxman was a bit disappointing as totems were mostly recreations, was expecting to see original pieces.

Aug 2018 - Kathleen K.

Todd has lived in Ketchikan for a long time, so he was very familiar with all the history & interesting facts. We stopped to see a totem carver, then went out to look for bears-none to be seen, we visited the totem village with interesting facts about them. He told us he was making an extra stop at the salmon ladder/creek in town and gave us a ton of details on spawning.

Kinda blah. Guide was ok.

Jul 2018 - Anita O.

This excursion was ok but my opinion does not reflect on the service provided. I was disappointed in the Saxmsn Totem village it was not what I expected. The wildlife part was amazing.

Jul 2018 - Jane H.

Very knowledgeable and interesting Native American guide who shared personal and family artefacts with us. However, getting in and out of the van to sit in the back seats was difficult and stuffy and we couldn't hear the commentary very well.

Jul 2018 - Erica L.

The tour guide was very knowledgeable and personable. We saw a lot of bald eagles, a seal, even salmon jumping out of the water. The Totem Village was very interesting. We had to park in a gravel area at the Wildlife Extension and I think that would be hard for someone with limited mobility to navigate.

Jun 2018 - JOHN D.

Todd our guide had a wealth of local knowledge and went out of his way to check and stop at wildlife photo opportunities - very enjoyable experience.

Don't know that I would call it a wildlife extension. Should probably say, May See Wildlife.

A little disappointed with this tour.People who used different tour walked on raised boardwalk and saw bears.we on the other side of river did not.

Aug 2017 - Shaohua L.

Norman is a very nice tour guide, knowing lots about the city and territory. He even had his traditional outfit for ceremonies to show us around the Saxman Totem Village. The stories about the totem poles are the highlight of this tour. We didn't got to see the bear, but seen lots of eagles.

Aug 2017 - Margaret M.

We were privileged to have David, of the Raven clan, as our guide, so had an "insiders" view on the tour. We saw bald eagles and a black bear and learned a lot about the types of story/totem poles of his people. Dolly's house was a real eye-opener! As an additional bonus, we had a bit of sunshine in this, the rainiest city of Alaska.

Jul 2017 - Robert G.

Our driver Tammy made this trip for us...she was cheerful, humorous generous with information and a great ambassador for Alaska and Ketchikan.

Jul 2017 - Patrick S.

The tour was a little short, but David was great and we saw a big black bear near the creek. The totem pole exhibits were fun and we learned things we did not know about totem poles. Thanks.

Jul 2017 - Michael M.

Nice view of the eagles from the island. Saxman Village was not much without going into the clan house.

Jun 2017 - Marie H.

Our tour guide was amazing and paid special attention to my 89 year old mother's mobility limitations. She was charming and helpful and provided us with great information and background about the area. Highly recommend

May 2017 - Helen K.

Very interesting and informative, guide was excellent. Just would have been better if more wildlife were seen, but we understand there is no guarantees in that department.

May 2017 - Katarzyna Z.

Knowledgeable tour guide, we saw a lot of eagles. Pleasant and mellow tour.

Sep 2016 - Pamela P.

I enjoyed the Totem Village and Robert's stories gave me a great appreciation for the role totems play in preserving history. While we had abundant salmon viewing other animals were scarce. We may have been too late in the season. Most important, the service was friendly and helpful. Every person we talked to was welcoming, warm and caring. They even gave us a ride to our cruise ship even though we purchased independently.

Sep 2016 - Andrea S.

Good for a short tour of Ketchikan.

May 2016 - Marvin R.

Our tour guide was great. We were a little disappointed we did not see the dancing but did not book the tour that included the village dancing. Our tour guide was great. We saw a black bear and several bald eagles. Dolly's house was very interesting.

May 2016 - Roberto B.

Our driver guide was able to show us the bald eagles, it's nests and the totem poles were very nice.

May 2016 - Robert G.

Great tour with our guide who really enjoys his home in Ketchikan. We were shown the real local sights, including berries, waterfalls, salmon and of course, totem poles. His explanation of the totem poles really brought their significance to light.

May 2016 - Anne K.

The totem village and Wildlife extension was a fun tour in Ketchikan. Unfortunately, the wildlife weren't cooperating on our day. The totem village was fascinating and our tour guide was a member of the village so he gave us insight into the everyday life of the clan.

May 2016 - Deborah W.

Cool tour! Loved the totems. All ages enjoyed this one and it was very pretty! Lots of eagles and the village was very neat!

May 2016 - Winifred B.
