Salmon fishing in Ketchikan offers visitors a true taste of Alaska’s outdoor lifestyle. In these vibrant waters, anglers can try their luck at landing kings, silvers, pinks, chum, and sockeye salmon while taking in the rugged beauty of the surrounding coastline. While the charter is salmon-focused, guests may also have the opportunity to target other species such as rockfish, lingcod, Pacific cod, and sablefish. Throughout the experience, guests may also sight whales, orcas, porpoises, seals, sea lions, eagles, and other iconic wildlife.

This charter welcomes guests of all abilities. Adaptive gear—including wheelchair-mountable rod holders, grasping cuffs, and specialized reel grips—is available for those who need it, ensuring every participant can fully enjoy the excitement of the catch. Captain Jack, a Certified Autism Specialist, provides an inclusive and supportive environment for members of the autism community.

For those wishing to take home their catch, fish processing and shipping can be arranged through a local fish processor. Please see the FAQ tab for more information.

Things You Need to Know

Inclusions:

  • Roundtrip transportation
  • Bottled water and snacks
  • Binoculars
  • All required safety equipment
  • All fishing equipment (bait, ice, etc)
  • Facilitate delivery of your catch to the local fish processor

Requirements:

  • A one-day fishing license is required for everyone 16 years and older ($15) - please visit Alaska Dept. of Fish and Game to purchase and print your fishing license in advance of the tour, please purchase your fishing license before you board your cruise
  • A king stamp ($15) is recommended for June and July. Purchase in advance at Alaska.gov to save time, or bring cash to buy onboard
  • Fish processing is handled through a third-party service and is not included in the tour price

Duration: Approximately 5 hours (Roundtrip from cruise terminal)

  • 15 minutes - transportation to the boat launch
  • 1 hour - boat ride to the fishing spots
  • 3.5 hours - salmon fishing, the amount of time spent fishing will be determined by fishing location and weather conditions
  • 15 minutes - transportation back to your cruise ship

Meeting Instructions:

  • This tour meets at your cruise terminal. Fully detailed instructions are included on your finalized ticket vouchers. If your ship docks at Ward Cove, you will be picked up there and you do not need to take the shuttle.

Yes, this tour is fully wheelchair accessible. The boat has extra-wide doors to allow access for mobility devices, smooth surfaces to enable movement about the vessel, and extra deck space up front for guests utilizing mobility devices.

Yes, anyone 16 or older will need to purchase a license. A King Stamp is recommended if you are salmon fishing in June & July. You can purchase in advance at Alaska.gov or you can purchase with cash on the day of.

Per USCG regulations a maximum of 6 guests may be on board our vessel. This excursion cannot add additional people to the boat. The maximum capacity of the boat is 6 guests.

There's always a chance to see orcas, humpback whales, porpoises, seals, and eagles as they are commonly sighted on this tour; however, since it's not a designated wildlife tour, wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Yes, We can facilitate delivery at a local processor after the trip.

The processing and shipping is done by a third party service. This includes filleting, vacuum sealing, freezing, storing, and overnight shipping via FedEx. Since you're on vacation, your fish will be stored in a freezer until your preferred shipment date. Overnight shipments are sent out Monday-Thursday, and you will receive your catch the following day.

The price will vary based on many factors: the amount, the type of fish, whether you want the fillets smoked, current shipping rates, and so on. Guests should plan on budgeting roughly 150-250 USD for the processing service.

The waters are generally calm because Ketchikan is protected by various islands.

Please bring warm, layered clothing/rain gear, a camera, sunglasses, and cash for a fishing license (if not purchased in advance).

A portable marine toilet is available on board, providing privacy and comfort if needed. However, there is no fully enclosed bathroom.
