Ketchikan Guided Fly Fishing Tour

Excursion Overview

Grab a reel and enjoy one of Alaska's favorite past times

Take advantage of Alaska's ideal fly fishing conditions with this guided fishing tour! Your guide will pick you up from the dock and take you to get outfitted with all the fishing gear you'll need. Then you'll be ready to start reeling them in!

You'll be fishing mainly for rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, and Dolly Varden trout. Ketchikan is a fishing hotspot, famous for its abundant populations of marine life. We'll drive you out to a peaceful spot where you can get away from the crowds of downtown. While multiple locations may be used for fishing, this tour primarily focuses on Ward Creek and White River.

If you're not a fishing expert, don't worry. You'll have help from your experienced fly fisherman guide. Fly fishing utilizes small, lightweight, artificial "flies" for bait, which are essentially an imitation of a bug or a small fish.

Get ready to sit back, relax, and enjoy a peaceful day of catching fish in the beautiful wilderness of Southeast Alaska.

This was a wonderful experience for me. Just one other man, the guide and myself. Our guide was knowledge, experienced and so, so helpful. I was definitely rusty with my fly fishing skills and he spent lots of time helping me out. Caught lots of salmon in a gorgeous setting. Highly recommended. Thanks so much.

This excursion was everything I expected and more. Wanted to fly fishing in Alaska and decided that trout was the only option. However because of our trip timing, early August, the salmon were starting to run so we were able to fly fish for salmon. Our guide, Evan, was friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable. There was only 2 in our group and I fly-fishing regularly so Evan gave most of his attention to the other person (which was fine with me), but he still taught me new tricks and was there for every fish to net it, unhook it and of coarse pictures. One of the best excursions I have ever done and definitely my best Alaska memory. I am sure if we were catching trout it would be just as memorable. Thank you Evan for a great day and all the pics!!!!

My son and I signed up for this as we have never fly-fished before. This also looked more fun than the usual cruise excursion of getting on a boat a trolling for fish. AT THE SHOP The section we were in was small but had numerous supplies for just about anything you could need. We were fitted with waders and boots. We did not have a license, so we went online and got that taken care of (should have done this in advance). FISHING Our guide was confident and knowledgable and was never frustrated with teaching us the simplest of things. She provided us with all of our gear in a parking lot near-ish to where we were going. We walked down the road we came in on to a path that we hiked down to the stream. Some other more experienced fishermen were with us as well that she set up with gear and set them on their way just ahead of us. We were taught the techniques we needed to get started and we were fly fishing!... sort of anyway. It takes a minute to coordinate and get into the groove. LOCATION I don't recall the name of the lake/stream but it was beautiful. The weather was in the 50s and rained off and on all day. Almost perfect if not for the rain. POSSIBLY HELPFUL I have seen plenty of movies and pictures of fly fishing and it's always serene and peaceful and just awesome looking. This trip was all of that. The thing I wasn't prepared for was the hiking in and out plus the unevenness of the rocks we had to stand on and move about on all day. I'm a plus-sized middle-aged dude and I was SPENT by the end of this excursion (only blame myself for not being more in shape). You have to navigate over a few fallen trees plus a few places with current all while trying to plant your feet on slippery-ass moving rocks. While I didn't completely fall into the water, I almost did about five times. My 27 yo son DID fall in twice (haha). I think I used every leg muscle and tendon plus every core muscle group that day. It was totally worth it and I would do this trip again (maybe with a little more exercise beforehand though). SCORE Me and the boy give this experience two thumbs up! ~ james ballard

I had a great experience with my guide on a stream that was on the other side of Ketchikan from the port. We fished for 4 hours straight and didn t see anyone else the entire time. He helped me with my casting and taught me some new ways to cast under trees. We caught probably about 50 trout in that time. I would recommend this to anyone interested in fly fishing, especially if you are at an intermediate level like I am.
