Excursion Overview

Picturesque landscapes along the route

Note: for a round trip, add the Seward to Anchorage train or view all of our Alaska Railroad routes.

Departing Anchorage, the train winds along Turnagain Arm, where the steep mountains of the Chugach Range plunge directly to the sea. Following a brief stop in Girdwood, the train continues to the end of Turnagain Arm and veers away from the road system into the backcountry wilderness - and what many consider to be the most scenic stretch of the entire Railbelt.

Upon a late morning arrival into Seward, the train comes to a halt on the shores of Resurrection Bay.

The train from Anchorage to Seward was wonderful. The landscape was breath taking and the commentary that described what was coming up was great. I would definitely recommend this train trip to family and friends from Western Australia.

This was a very enjoyable ride full of beautiful views, delicious food and friendly staff! It was so easy to board and drop-off luggage. Our luggage was dropped at the train station and from there Alaska Railroad had it sent straight to our staterooms on the ship! The train drops you off right at the port and shuttles are there to take you the half block to the ship, although you could walk and be just fine. Smooth and easy and very enjoyable!!

This was a fantastic way to get to Seward from Anchorage and an amazing introduction to Alaska. The train was very comfortable and the Gold Star service with 360 view via the domed car was well worth the additional $$ for our bucket list trip. We thoroughly enjoyed this train ride and highly recommend.
