Seward Marmot Meadows Hike

Excursion Overview

Experience Exit Glacier like never before on a hike that combines breathtaking views with rich local insight

Alaska is home to over 100,000 glaciers, but few have shaped a community like Exit Glacier has shaped Seward. This iconic glacier has played a key role in the town’s history and economy, and visitors have the chance to explore its beauty and significance on this guided hike.

The hike follows the Harding Icefield Trail, a challenging 2.6-mile round trip that climbs over 1,000 feet in just 1.3 miles. At Marmot Meadows, hikers are rewarded with panoramic views of the 2.5-mile-long glacier and can enjoy snacks and hot drinks while taking in the scenery. Along the way, the guide shares insights into local wildlife, geology, glaciation, and the history of Seward.

While the glacier can be seen from the Overlook Trail, the view from Marmot Meadows offers a far more memorable experience. For safety, guides will carry bear spray, first aid kits, and emergency communication devices. Please note: this hike is not recommended for beginners.
