Seward Exit Glacier Nature Hike

Excursion Overview

Hike to the Iconic Exit Glacier!

The Exit Glacier Overlook Loop Trail is an excellent way to immerse yourself in the stunning nature and landscapes of Alaska! This well-maintained 2.2-mile loop trail offers an easy to moderate hiking experience, with breathtaking views of Kenai Fjords National Park. As it meanders through a glaciated forest of tall spruce, cottonwood, and birch trees, you’ll encounter terminal moraines towering over 12 feet high. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife like moose, bears, or mountain goats, and look for quartz veins and iron and copper deposits along the way.

Follow the river that flows beneath Exit Glacier, contributing to its movement down the valley, and take in the expansive views of glacially carved valleys, spotting the many glaciers nestled among the mountain peaks. With over 100,000 glaciers in Alaska, join us to see the one that has had the most significant impact on Seward and its visitors. Exit Glacier has played a vital role in Seward’s history and has even helped sustain the local economy. We’re thrilled to share this iconic landmark with you.

Your guided hike provides a deeper understanding of the glacier's impact and history, both personally and communally. Your guide will accompany you along the trail, sharing insights about local flora and fauna, geology, glaciology, and the history of Seward.
