This tour is typically available from June through September. Our excursions were designed for cruise ship passengers but are available to everyone.

Things You Need to Know

Inclusions:

  • A small-group backcountry adventure with interpretive storytelling, scenic riding along the historic Iditarod route, and the satisfaction of supporting local trail preservation efforts

Requirements:

  • All ATV drivers are required to be at least 18 years old and have a valid Driver's License.
  • Minimum age: 8 years old (if your child cannot hold on unassisted behind the driver they cannot ride)
  • Pregnant women or guests with injuries, seizure disorders, back or neck problems, or hearing or vision impairments will not be allowed on this tour
  • Signed liability waiver
  • All guests must arrive at the local Seward office 30 minutes prior to the tour start time and attend the mandatory safety briefing to participate.
  • Guests must provide a major credit card on the day of the excursion for a $250 security deposit per machine rented, which will be held and released at checkout if no violations occur.

Duration: Approximately 2 hours (roundtrip from local office - transportation is not provided)

  • 30 minutes - arrive at the local office to check in, complete waivers, gear up with helmets and eye protection, and prepare for the ride
  • 10 minutes - safety briefing and orientation
  • 90 minutes - guided ATV trail ride with scenic midpoint stop for photos
  • 20 minutes - wrap up at local office and return gear

Meeting Instructions:

  • Guests are responsible for their own transportation to the tour meeting point (about an 8-minute drive from the cruise ship terminal). Taxis and Ubers may be limited, so please plan in advance. Fully detailed instructions are included on your finalized ticket vouchers.

Frequently Asked Questions

There are no weight restrictions for this tour, and riders up to 6’7” have participated. However, pregnant guests and those with injuries, seizure disorders, back or neck issues, or hearing or vision impairments are not permitted to join.

Wildlife sightings are possible but not guaranteed. The trail travels through natural Alaskan backcountry, where animals such as moose, eagles, and bears are often present. However, as these animals roam freely, sightings can vary depending on the day and season.

Yes. All ATVs are open vehicles, so riders are exposed to the elements. Trails are dirt, which can be dusty on dry days and muddy when it rains. Getting wet or dirty is possible, depending on speed, distance between vehicles, and driving through puddles or riverbeds. Raingear is provided when needed, and SxS vehicles have a roof, windshield, and half doors. Water may enter the floorboards of multi-passenger ATVs but will drain out.

This tour is guided by professional, knowledgeable guides. There is always a front guide, leading the tour group, and a back guide. If the tour group warrants, or if it is a dusty day, a middle guide will be available as well.

There are designated stopping points during each tour, at scenic areas and overlooks. If the tour sees moose or other animals, the tour can stop to take pictures. At any point during your tour, if you need to stop, simply alert a guide.

Yes. Small point-and-shoot cameras will fit in the glove compartment of the multiple passenger ATVs. It is recommended that larger cameras are worn and covered with a jacket/shirt.

No experience is necessary to take the Single ATVs or multiple passenger ATVs on our tours. Every rider must go through a safety course that mimics some of the trail conditions before heading out to the trails. If you are feeling uncomfortable with your ATV during the pre-trail training time, simply alert the guides.

Yes, you can wear a backpack on the single ATVs and put bags in the back of the multiple passenger ATVs or on the floorboards. Be aware that bags may become dusty/dirty/wet on the trail. We recommend that you only bring what you need and leave the rest of your belongings in your hotel room.

Closed-toe shoes, long pants and layered clothing are recommended. Dress appropriately for the weather.

Yes, you can bring non-alcoholic beverages and snacks.

Simply alert the nearest guide using hand signals, and they will guide you to a suitable area.

Drivers must be at least 18 years old and present a valid ID. While all adults are welcome, guests should note that operating the ATV requires some physical activity and comfort with outdoor adventure.

For safety and wildlife reasons, no food or drinks are allowed on the trail. Only water is permitted.

No, there is no minimum. The tour welcomes individuals, couples, and groups of any size.

Safety is the top priority. Any participant who behaves disruptively or unsafely will be returned immediately, and no refund will be issued.
