Train from Anchorage to Fairbanks via Denali Star Train on Alaska Railroad

Excursion Overview

The Alaska Railroad's flagship train

Note: for a round trip, add the Fairbanks to Anchorage train or view all of our Alaska Railroad routes.

Take a journey through Alaska's Interior region to Fairbanks, the largest city in these parts. Fairbanks is located just short of the Arctic Circle, a mere 188 miles south. "The Golden Heart City" is known as both a reference to the discovery of gold in 1902 as well as for its close proximity to the geographic center of Alaska. Even with a fairly large population, over 30,000 people, Fairbanks remains a charming frontier travel destination.

Out of Alaska's five geographic regions, this adventure's route spans over two of these, the Interior and South Central. On sunny, clear-skied days guests can experience the sights of the Denali mountain, one of North America's tallest peaks. Offering views of the occasional remote cabin along the snaking Indian River as well as the expansive sights from the top of the 296-foot bridge that beautifully displays Hurricane Gulch, this experience is one for the scrapbook.
