Anchorage Matanuska Glacier Hike Tour

Excursion Overview

Discover a once-in-a-lifetime journey to the Matanuska Glacier!

Spend 2.5-3 hours walking directly on the ice surface, guided by an expert who will explain how the glacier was formed and its role in shaping the landscape of the Matanuska Susitna Valley. Along the way, explore vibrant blue meltwater pools, fascinating ice formations, and deep crevasses that highlight the glacier’s dynamic nature. With a small group of no more than 12 guests, this tour offers an intimate and educational experience you’ll never forget.

For safety and fun, guests are equipped with helmets, walking sticks, and crampons to navigate the slippery ice. Sturdy shoes and an extra pair of socks are recommended, as you may find your footwear covered in glacial “flour”—a fine ground rock that makes for a fun facial! After your icy adventure, head to a rustic Alaskan lodge with stunning views of the glacier, and share stories with fellow travelers. Guests can purchase lunch, beverages, and desserts as they'd like (lunch is not included in the tour price). The entire experience is seamless with hotel pickup in Anchorage and guided transportation to and from the glacier.
