Note: for a round trip, add the Anchorage to Whittier train
or view all of our Alaska Railroad
Depart the quaint town of Whittier in the late evening with Anchorage set as your final destination. The journey will be scenic and include two short stops. The first is to see the Portage Glacier. While the glacier has retreated over the years, it's still 6 miles long and a sight to see. Head towards Girdwood, a famous resort town, before winding your way along Turnagain Arm, where the steep mountains of the Chugach Range plunge directly to the sea.

The ride was excellent, but the timing can be tricky. Spent more time in Whittier than I was expecting, but the view in Whittier is amazing.
