Embark on a 5-hour tour from Whittier Cruise Ship Terminal to Anchorage, traveling via the scenic Seward Highway and Portage Pass. Your driver will share the history of Turnagain Arm, Portage Pass, and Whittier—from Indigenous settlement to English exploration and the gold rush, uncovering the origins of Whittier along the way.

Dedicated to preserving and showcasing Alaska’s Native traditions, languages, and art, enjoy a two hour self-guided stop at the Alaska Native Heritage Center. Dive into 10,000 years of culture through vibrant art, mesmerizing dance performances, intriguing exhibits, and hands-on activities that bring history to life. Your local guides will utilize a 50-passenger motorcoach or 15-passenger transit van based on the group's size. If you are flying out of Anchorage on the day of the tour your flight has to be after 4:00 pm.

This tour is typically available from April through June.
Our excursions were designed for cruise ship passengers but are available to everyone.


Things You Need to Know

Inclusions:

  • Transportation from Glacier Creek & Whittier Cruise Terminals (met right as you disembark) to Anchorage International Airport or to the Captain Cook Hotel in Downtown Anchorage
  • Admission to Alaska Native Heritage Center
  • Live tour narration during the driving portion of transfer

Requirements:

  • Drop-off is available only at Anchorage International Airport or the Captain Cook Hotel in downtown Anchorage
  • All ages are welcome! Children 2 and under who will sit on your lap are free.
  • Guests should be capable of either stepping up into the transit van or climbing four steps to enter and exit the motorcoach. The Alaska Native Heritage Center is available for guests to explore at their own pace.

Duration: Approximately 5 hours (Transfer from Whittier to Anchorage)

  • 1.5-1.75 hours - Pick up at Whittier cruise ship terminal and scenic drive to the Alaska Native Heritage Center
  • 2 hours - Self-guided tour of Alaska Native Heritage Center
  • 1.25 hours - Continued transit to Anchorage International Airport and Captain Cook Hotel in downtown Anchorage

Meeting Instructions:

  • This tour meets inside the Glacier Creek and Whittier Cruise Terminals shortly after disembarkation. Guests will receive full check-in instructions, including exact times and locations, on their finalized ticket vouchers.

ADA Accessibility of Tour:

  • This tour is limited mobility accessible. Guests should be capable of either stepping up into the transit van or climbing four steps to enter and exit the motorcoach. There is limited space for collapsible wheelchairs and walkers. There is no storage available for motorized scooters. Please leave a comment during checkout if accommodations for collapsible equipment will be required on tour.

Yes, you can go ahead and make your reservation and contact us later to update your drop off location. That way you'll secure your spot before the date fills up. Please update our team at least a week in advance.

No, we do not have any luggage limitations.

The motorcoach holds up to 50 passengers and the transit-van can accommodate up to 15 guests.

There are bathrooms at the cruise terminal and at The Alaska Native Heritage Center. Also, the driver can always make an unscheduled stop if there is an urgent need.

Car seats are not provided for this tour. Children 2 and under may sit on a parent's lap, or you may bring your own carseat.

Whittier has two cruise ship terminals. Guests will be picked up at their assigned terminal: at Glacier Creek Cruise Terminal between 8:00–8:30 AM, check in at the kiosk; at Whittier Cruise Terminal between 8:45–9:00 AM, look for the representative in a grey polo holding the tour sign. Please review your finalized ticket voucher for complete check-in details.

If you are flying out of Anchorage on the day of travel, your flight must depart after 4:00 PM.

For cruise arrivals, guests collect their luggage at the terminal, and drivers assist with loading for quick, comfortable boarding.

Luggage is stored under the coach; please keep valuables with you.
