Denali Glacier Flightseeing Experience with Landing

Excursion Overview

A spectacular flightseeing adventure surrounded by the Alaska Range peaks

This iconic flightseeing route forms the foundation of Denali’s most celebrated aerial tours, offering an unforgettable perspective of North America’s highest mountain. Guests soar to within six miles of Denali’s summit before descending into the dramatic Ruth Amphitheater and Great Gorge, one of the deepest glacial canyons in the world. Along the way, sweeping views unfold over the Tokositna and Ruth Glaciers, the razor sharp ridges of Mount Huntington, hanging glaciers on Mount Hunter, and the legendary Moose’s Tooth, showcasing the raw grandeur of Denali National Park from the air.

Weather permitting, the experience may include a rare glacier landing on the Ruth Glacier within the Sheldon Amphitheater, placing guests directly in the heart of the Alaska Range. Standing atop pristine snow and surrounded by towering granite peaks draped in ice, visitors experience a profound sense of stillness and scale that few ever encounter. This once in a lifetime Denali flightseeing adventure blends breathtaking scenery with the unforgettable thrill of setting foot on a remote glacier.

This tour is typically available from February through October. Our excursions were designed for cruise ship passengers but are available to everyone.

This is a very common question and is unfortunately impossible to answer! There is not a predictable weather pattern in Denali. The massive size of Mt. Denali results in unique weather patterns that can vary throughout the day. We highly recommend that passengers book their flights as early into their Denali stay as possible in order to maximize opportunities to reschedule according to weather conditions.

Passengers should dress according to temperatures on the ground; we recommend layering your clothing and bringing a light jacket. Sunglasses are highly recommended due to the bright glare off the snow of the glaciers and peaks. For more detailed packing tips for your Alaskan vacation, check out our What to Pack for Your Alaskan Cruise guide.

It is recommended that passengers bring their cameras/phones with extra batteries and sunglasses. Most guests do not find binoculars helpful during the flight but feel free to bring binoculars if you’d like.

Due to FAA regulations, passengers are not permitted to bring carry-on bags on flights. Passengers must carry all small personal items, such as cameras and phones. Passengers are encouraged to leave any backpacks and purses in a secure location at the tour provider's office.

The weather in the mountains is difficult to predict and our tour provider relies on a variety of sources to make decisions about flights and educate visitors about flight conditions. They check weather cameras in the Denali vicinity and also rely on pilot reports in addition to more traditional weather sources (radar, etc). The weather in the Park and especially Mt. Denali can be very different than the weather at the hotels/in the Park entrance area. Flights cancelled and unable to be rescheduled are fully refundable.

The fleet consists of Cessna 185 (4 passengers), the DeHavilland Beaver (6-7 passengers), the DeHavilland Turbine Otter (10 passengers), and the Cherokee Six (5 passengers).

Yes, all seats are window seats. You are welcome to request a specific seat, including co-pilot, but seating is ultimately decided by the pilot due to configuring weights and balance for the aircraft. If you have a specific request, please notify the front desk upon check-in. Also, if you are traveling with a group under different last names, please notify your van driver or the front desk if you would like to sit on the same plane.

We cannot guarantee that you will see the summit on this tour, as viewing opportunities change depending on the weather.

This tour requires a $15 Denali National Park pass for all guests 16 years and up. You can purchase your pass at the office on the day of your tour or in advance here. Please note that the pass is not included in the tour price.

Wildlife is abundant and sightings are possible, however this is not a designated wildlife tour and nothing can be guaranteed. On occasion, we may see Dall sheep, moose, bears, caribou or golden eagles.
