Excursion Overview

Drive your own dog team on real snow in the middle of the summer on this exciting Anchorage dog sledding tour!

Start this adventure with a spectacular helicopter ride over glaciers and icebergs. We often see moose, black bears, Dall sheep, and mountain goats. Next, land on a snowfield high on the Cataract Glacier and enjoy an hour with Iditarod sled dogs and their mushers. Take the dog team for an exhilarating dogsled tour through real snow. You can even stand on the runners and mush your own dog team if you like.

Includes meet and greet with the dogs. The length of this tour makes it perfect for the whole family and we often see three generations having fun together. After your dogsled tour meet the canine athletes that pulled your sled, listen to stories about running sled dog races of over 1,000 miles long, meet the puppies, and of course, take pictures with your favorite dogs. We provide overboots so your shoes stay dry, and we have some extra jackets and warm gear you can borrow if needed.

From the time Ashley picked us up at our hotel in Anchorage, she was pointing out interesting and historical locations. She made the drive fun and it seemed quick. The staff at the lodge made quick work of getting us checked in, fitting us with boots and presenting the safety information. Our pilot Cody took us on a fabulous ride from the lodge to the glacier dog camp, where the sled team crew assembled a dog sled team and had us sledding in a short time. Everyone got the chance to be in different positions, including being the driver of the rear sled! Afterwards we met the dogs, who were all nice and then some pups who were very cute. Then Cody took us in the helicopter, a different route back where we saw moose and doll sheep, as well as more incredible scenery. I'd highly recommend this excursion. It always felt safe and every detail was thoughtfully planned for maximum enjoyment. Good job!

This was the highlight of our trip to Alaska!! So worth it. The helicopter tour to the top of the glacier was great! The views were absolutely stunning. The dog sledding was so much fun. The pups are so sweet and playful. We got lucky with a sunny day so it definitely was not as cold as anticipated. I would definitely recommend Alaska Shore Excursions to anyone visiting Alaska. Professionally run and so worth it!!
