Excursion Overview

Get in some freshwater fishing with the possibility of bear watching!

Come along on a scenic drive and freshwater fishing excursion in beautiful Hoonah. With abundant wildlife in this area, keep your cameras ready for potential wildlife sightings. Brown bears, bald eagles, blacktail deer, ducks, geese, and more are often sighted throughout Southeast Alaska's rainforest.

As with everything in the wilds of Alaska, the fish runs are wild and seasonal. Depending on the time of year, the drive may be 20-40 minutes to the fishing destination. Dolly Varden Char and Cutthroat Trout can be found throughout the summer season. Pink and Chum Salmon run from late June through September, and Silver Salmon from late August through October.

You will be outfitted with fishing gear including waders (to keep your lower half dry), tackle, and spinning rods. Several fly fishing rods are available should that be your preference. This excursion is strictly catch and release fishery. The fish are a valuable resource and must be preserved for decades to come. The summer season runs from May through September.

Please note: This tour is strictly catch and release fishery.

Great fishing trip at Icy Straight Point Here's how it works: *walk off the cruise ship. Depending which dock you're at, you may need to take the free green gondola(or walk 10 minutes)to get to the excursions meeting spot. *you're picked up by guide Chris in a van. * you're taken to be fitted for hip waders. *drive to remote location, takes around 20 minutes *hike 10 minutes to stream *go fishing, we caught many fish Then do everything in reverse to get back to the ship. I recommend this fishing trip. Chris & his son are very kind, patient, & knowledgeable. It was one of the high points of our whole cruise!

We had lots of great adventures on our Alaska trip, but the whole family agreed the fishing trip with Chris was by far the best! My sons and I have done a little fishing before but never like this, standing in a river watching the fish swim around us. And my wife who has never really fished before got the first catch of the day thanks both to Chris great instruction and finding the perfect spot! We caught dozens of salmon, and seeing that my youngest son was so into it, Chris then changed lures and taught us all how to catch trout, and we all caught a bunch of those too. We even got to watch a bear catch salmon downriver from where we were standing! Chris had an incredible knowledge not only of fish but all kinds of Alaskan wildlife. Truly an incredible & memorable experience!

Chris was very knowledgeable of the area. We all caught lots of fish! Mostly pink salmon. We also saw two brown bears that were walking through the stream we were fishing in. One even caught a fish right out of the water! Great experience.
