Skagway Rock Climbing, Rappelling and Ziplining Adventure

The world experienced and trained mountain guides will lead guests on a thrilling rock climbing, rappelling, and ziplining tour throughout the mountains and rain forest of White Pass.

Guests will find climbs appropriate for any ability and all levels of experience can expect a good challenge! A brief narrated ride through the downtown area of historic Skagway and along the Klondike Highway will transport guests to the first portion of their adventure. After a hike to the base of the glacier-smoothed granite cliffs, guests will receive their equipment and safety orientation prior to commencing their climb.

A dozen or more climbing routes offer guests' varying experience a range of opportunities, from easy to challenging. A stunningly unique view awaits each guest at the top as the Skagway River, White Pass and Yukon Route Railway, and encompassing wilderness come into view. An adrenaline-pumping 70-foot rappel brings guests back down the clean granite.

Guests won't be on the ground long, as their guides lead them through the lush rain forest on a series of double cable zip lines, allowing for a hands-free experience. Guests will be able to focus on the fun and cheer each other on as the experienced guides handle the braking system. This tour combines the thrills and excitement of two different activities for the ultimate Skagway adventure.

Activity Level: Moderate - Uneven hiking trail through rocky and wooded terrain.

Requirements: Minimum weight: 50lbs. Maximum weight: 300lbs (or 52" waist size). Minimum age: 6 years old. Closed-toe shoes must be worn. This tour is not recommended for people who are pregnant, have had recent neck/back injuries or surgery, or are in a wheelchair.

Duration: 4.5 hours (Roundtrip from cruise ship terminal.)

  • Participants must sign a liability waiver (parent/guardian must sign for minors)

Duration: 4.5 hours. Tour times below are approximate:

  • 10 minutes - greet guide and tour briefing
  • 20 minutes - interpretive drive to the site
  • 15 minutes - rock climbing/rappelling gear fitting/safety orientation
  • 2 hours - rock climbing and rappelling
  • 15 minutes - ziplining gear fitting/safety orientation
  • 60 minutes - ziplining
  • 15 minutes - relaxing with snacks/beverages
  • 15 minutes - transfer back to ship terminal

Who are my guides?

Experts in the industry, your guides are fun, well-trained and passionate about guiding and sharing their expert knowledge about the history and natural wonder of  Skagway. The guides go through extensive training and hold current first-aid certification.

What is the climbing like?

All climbing is top-rope climbing on actual granite! There are 12 different climbing routes ranging from 25 to 60 feet with difficulty ranges from about 5.4 to 5.9. All routes will have professional guides doing all the belaying for guests.

Do I need prior ziplining experience to participate?

No experience is necessary for this tour, and beginners as well as experts are welcome!

How long are the zip lines?

They range from just under 100 to over 200 feet, and you will be as high as 80 feet in the air.

Is there a bathroom?

Restrooms are available on the dock prior to departing for your tour, and non-flushing restrooms at the start/finish of the walk up to the rock and zip line site.

Are there any physical requirements for this tour?

Partipants should be comfortable with heights and able to walk on uneven surfaces. This tour is not recommended for people who are pregnant, have had recent neck/back injuries or surgery, are in a wheel chair,  over 300lbs in weight or with more than a 52" waist.

What type of clothing should I wear?

Layered clothing, long pants and weather appropriate dress is recommended. Closed toe shoes (sneakers, hiking or rain boots) are required; sandals and other open toe footwear is not permitted.  

Are there any age restrictions for children?

Children must be at least 6 years old and weigh a minimum of 50lbs.

Can I bring a backpack?

All backpacks, bags, and purses are are required to be placed in lockers (provided) and are not allowed on the zipline tour. Personal cameras and video devices are allowed while ziplining.

Can I bring my own food or drink?

Food and beverage are not allowed on this tour.

A light snack and beverage are included on this tour.

Does this tour cancel due to the weather?

This tour is set up to embrace Southeast Alaska's unpredictable weather and typically runs rain or shine.  In the rare instance weather does cause a cancellation, guests are refunded in full and provided assistance with finding alternative activity for the day.
