Excursion Overview

**THIS TOUR IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE 2024 SEASON**

See the remains of what was once a city of 10,000 greedy stampeders as you wind your way through one of Alaska's most breathtaking valleys just as the original stampeders did...on horseback!

Your horseback riding adventure begins with a narrated tour by van through the historic town of Skagway out to our ranch in Dyea. Along the way, you'll see some of Alaska's most beautiful back-country wilderness and part of the Klondike Gold Rush National Park.

Your Chilkoot exploration will begin deep in the heart of Dyea Valley and bring you to its original townsite near the waterfront. Along the way, your guides will enthrall you with stories of the area's gold rush history "Sourdough" style. You'll appreciate our gentle horses as you pose for a picture or watch the abundant wildlife. Riders of all experience levels are welcome to participate as no running of the horses is allowed on the trip; just an easy walk to give everyone plenty of time to enjoy the scenery.

When you've finished your trek on horseback, sit down with your guides as you enjoy a beverage and some of our famous Alderwood smoked salmon pate!

We had a great time on the horseback adventure. The guides were knowledgeable and a lot of fun. It was a very rainy day but they had a fire going and snacks when we returned so we warmed up and dried off quickly.

The scenery was gorgeous. All the staff were very nice. The horses were easy to ride and very calm. Wish the trail could have been better. It was an out and back ride so in the 2nd half of the ride there was nothing new. Would have enjoyed riding more in the open valley.

Our family of 5 enjoyed this excursion in May 2023. Don't let the sticker shock deter you! It is worth every penny! You will discover the staff to be fun to be around, and professional. Ask them lots of questions! They have a great depth of knowledge of the horses, etc. You will be in great hands! We rode for over an hour and half, and enjoyed hot chocolate and refreshments around a campfire afterwards. What a great touch! We even got to feed the horses some oats afterwards. Another delight, especially for our 11 year old daughter! The horses are tame, stable, calm, safe. The scenery is breath-taking! Wow! We could not have asked for a better excursion! And there is nothing the staff could have done to make it even better! Words are barely adequate to share how glad we were to take this excursion with such an amazing team of people!

I enjoyed the ride; the horses were well-behaved and the guides did a nice job. I was a little disappointed that we did so much road riding, and that we spent a fair amount of time hanging out in a pasture with the horses grazing. As an experienced rider, I would love to come back and do more of an advanced ride on actual trails through the forest.

Nice ride through the Alaskan rain forest! Staff was waiting at the pier and provided history and commentary during the ride to the stable. The horses were well behaved and I enjoyed Sundance very much! Throughout the ride, Tanner was not only funny but also very concerned with guest safety and comfort. Very well run!
