This tour is suitable for beginners with little to no previous kayaking experience.

Things You Need to Know

Inclusions:

  • Standard paddle equipment (paddle, PFD, sprayskirt, bilge pump, sponges) - rain gear can be provided if needed
  • Certified guide and instructor
  • 1-2 bottles of water and 2 clif bars per person

Requirements:

  • Wear/bring weather appropriate clothing, including extra layers and footwear, to have a comfortable and enjoyable experience
  • Minimum of 2 passengers required to book
  • Minimum weight: 50 lbs (to properly fit child-size PFD's life vests)
  • Maximum weight: 275 lbs
  • Maximum height: 6 feet 6 inches
  • Minimum age: 6 years old
  • Guests must be comfortable climbing steps and able to get in and out of the kayak

Duration: 3 hours (Roundtrip from downtown Sitka)

  • 30 minutes - safety orientation, equipment orientation, and instruction
  • 2 hours - kayaking
  • 30 minutes - return to Harrigan Centennial Hall (downtown Sitka)

Meeting Instructions:

  • This tour departs from Harrigan Centennial Hall in downtown Sitka. Guests docking at the Sitka Sound Cruise Terminal will take a free shuttle to the downtown area. Fully detailed instructions are included on your finalized ticket vouchers.

Frequently Asked Questions

No experience is necessary to participate in this tour. This tour is suitable for beginners with little to no previous kayaking experience.

There is a minimum age of 6 years old to participate. Additionally, guests taller than 6 feet 6 inches or weighing over 275 lbs cannot be accommodated.

Guests must be comfortable climbing steps and able to get in and out of the kayak. Please inform the guides about any other physical limitations.

Wildlife is abundant in Southeast Alaska and sightings are possible on any tour, however, this is not a designated wildlife tour and nothing can be guaranteed.

Guests are advised to bring a water bottle, wool or synthetic socks and clothing, hat or head covering, sunglasses, rain gear, if you have asthma or other medical conditions that require medication like an EpiPen or rescue inhaler please bring those as our staff do not carry these in their first aid kits.

All bags must be stored prior to kayaking and are not allowed while on tour.

Layered clothing that will fit underneath a waterproof paddle jacket and sneakers or waterproof boots. Sunglasses and gloves are also recommended.

It is possible to tip over, however, it's a very rare occurrence. Our professional guides will provide good instruction on the basic paddling and bracing techniques, and you'll find out for yourself that the double kayaks are far more stable than you might imagine. You don't need to know how to swim. You'll be wearing a PFD (life vest) at all times while in the kayak.

There is a public restroom at Harrigan Centennial Hall (where the tour begins and ends) that you’re welcomed to use. Once we are on the water, we won’t have an opportunity to use a restroom.
