Mt. Riley

Overview

On the Chilkat Peninsula in southeastern Alaska is Mount Riley—the tallest point on the peninsula. Just south of Haines, the mountain is a heavily forested peak with abundant wildlife, and hikers can make the long trek to the top for panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, ocean, and glaciers.

About Mount Riley

Mount Riley stands at 1650 feet tall, and its high tree line makes the entire mountain a forested wilderness that’s home to plenty of black bear, brown bear, and moose. The Mount Riley Trail can be accessed from the Mud Bay trailhead, and it is considered a Class 2 hike up the heavily forested slopes with breaking views of the stunning scenery as you ascend.
