Haines Extended Chilkoot Lake Wildlife Viewing Tour

Excursion Overview

Searching for Wildlife in Chilkoot Lake State Park

Chilkoot Lake State Park shines during Alaskan summers with abundant wildflowers and turquoise waters surrounded by snowy mountain peaks. May, June, and July guests will find eagles keeping a watchful eye on their young. Migrating salmon and harbor seals are plentiful in late summer. With increasing salmon numbers, guests have an increased likelihood of spying a bear.

Please be advised that while bear sightings are common in August and September, they cannot be guaranteed.. Pink salmon migrating in late summer attract bears to the river but bear sightings are not guaranteed. Brown bears are primarily the species of bear seen (black bears are rarely seen along the Chilkoot River).

This small group excursion provides guests an opportunity to see Alaskan wildlife in their natural environment. Your guide will do their best to help the group spot wildlife along the journey through Chilkoot Lake State Park. A picnic-packed lunch will keep you full as you take in the astounding topography.
