Excursion Overview

Journey through the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve on the ultimate jet boat adventure

Set off on an adventure tour as your guide drives you up the Haines Scenic Byway to our private property. This is where you prepare for your jet boat tour and your journey through the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve. The boat is powered by very quiet four-stroke outboard jet motors and is uncovered for the best wildlife, scenery, and photography opportunities. Moose are often the highlight of the tour along with bald eagles with their massive nests that are dotted along the river banks. If you encounter a moose, bear, or any other wildlife, your captain can stop the boat so you can get your Alaska photo of a lifetime!

On your way back to Haines, you get to stop at the American Bald Eagle Foundation where live raptors are available for viewing. You can even pick up some memorabilia from the gift shop!

This excursion offers everything in a small group setting of up to 24 guests maximum. Warm and friendly staff provide customer service at the highest level. Extra outerwear to stay warm and dry is provided as well as lunch in a covered, heated pavilion with modern facilities. So bring a smile and you will leave with memories, photos, and a greater appreciation for the Alaskan wilderness and the people who call it their home!

• Jackets, gloves, earmuffs, and lap blankets will be provided for the jet boat portion of the tour
• Meal: Chicken Caesar wrap, chips, cookies, and water

Requirements:

• Minimum age: 7 years old
  
• Must be able to walk up and down dock ramp at steep inclines - about 200 yards.

Duration: 4 hours (Roundtrip from cruise ship terminal)

• 45 minutes - a scenic drive to the jet boat ramp
  
• 30 minutes - town tour
  
• 15 minutes - safety briefing and gear fitting
  
• 1.75 hours - jet boat tour through Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve
  
• 45 minutes - scenic return drive to the dock
  

Meeting Instructions:

• This tour meets at the end of the cruise dock. Fully detailed instructions are included on your finalized ticket vouchers.

ADA Accessibility of Tour:

• This tour is limited mobility accessible. Guests must be able to walk up and down the dock ramp at steep inclines - about 200 yards. Please leave a comment during checkout if accommodations for collapsible equipment will be required on tour.

Tours can be canceled for any reason up until seven (7) days prior to the date of the tour for a full refund unless otherwise noted on the individual tour product page in the Things to Know section. To cancel a tour, please use the cancelation request link within your e-ticket that was emailed to you OR send an email to info@alaskashoreexcursions.com with the following information:

- Order number

- Tour you are canceling

- Number of passengers you wish to cancel

Within 0-7 days before the tour date, cancelations are eligible for a full refund only in the following scenarios:

- The tour is canceled by the tour operator for any reason (for example: bad weather or mechanical issue)

- You experience a medical emergency during this window and can provide documentation (documentation must be submitted within 30 days to receive a refund)

- Your ship changes port itineraries causing you to miss an excursion

All refunds are processed through Alaska Shore Excursions, and will not be processed through any cruise line or local tour provider. Refunds will appear under Alaska Shore Excursions on your bank/credit card statement. Credit card refunds are processed within 10 business days of the request. Exceptions to the refund policy include multi-day packages and some day tours. Please refer to the specific refund policy listed on the individual tour product page.

Are there any physical requirements for this tour?

Tour is accessible to guests with limited mobility but is not wheelchair accessible. Must be able to walk up and down dock ramp at steep inclines - about 200 yards. Guests cannot be confined to a wheelchair and we cannot accommodate fixed wheelchairs or motorized scooters.

Is there a minimum age requirement for this excursion?

The minimum age is 7 years old to participate in this excursion.

Are food and drink included?

A boxed meal: Chicken Caesar wrap, chips, cookie, and water will be provided.

Are there bathrooms?

Yes. Bathroom stops are available throughout the tour, there will be several opportunities.
Bathroom 1: When you reach the port in Haines at the end of the pier, just before you board the bus.
Bathroom 2: After your bus ride, when you reach the facility before you board the boat.

Will I see wildlife on this tour?

Wildlife is abundant in Southeast Alaska and sightings are possible on any tour, however, wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed!

I'm pregnant. Can I participate in this tour?

Due to medical restrictions, expectant mothers past 20 weeks cannot join the tour. Guests must also be in good health and capable of walking over loose gravel and dry river delta to board the jet boat. We recommend consulting with your doctor before participating.
