Things You Need to Know

Requirements:

  • Minimum age: 8 years old
  • Dress in comfortable layers for warmth, stable closed-toed shoes, and bring rain gear
  • Guests hike approximately 3–5 miles over uneven terrain, including roots, rocks, and occasional slippery or loose sections, with minimal elevation gain. This is a physically demanding activity; guests should ensure they are able to participate and disclose any relevant medical conditions to the guide.

Duration: Approximately 5 hours (Roundtrip from cruise ship terminal)

  • 10 minutes - meet your guide and greet
  • 30 minutes - transfer to trailhead at Chilkat State Park
  • 10 minutes - safety briefing and orientation
  • 1.5 hours - hiking on the trail
  • 40 minutes - picnic lunch
  • 1.5 hours - hiking back along the trail
  • 30 minutes - transfer by van to the Port Chilkoot dock

You will be hiking over uneven, natural terrain. There are exposed roots, rocks and sometimes muddy sections. The trail has relatively little elevation change but has sections taking place on loose beach rock.
