Start with a walk through the paved streets of Sitka. Learn and discover more about the history of Sitka as the former capital of Russian America. Visit the Russian Bishop House, a stroll by Cresent Harbor, Sitka Sound Science Center, and Sheldon Jackson Historical College.
Enjoy a walk along the scenic coast on your way to the National Historical Park. Discover and learn about the unusual story of how the park's totem pole collection came to be. Immerse yourself in the history and culture of the Tlingit and Haida people as you gain a deeper understanding of their roots in the area.
The standard tour involves walking on paved streets and gravel walkways for 60 minutes/approximately one mile. The first half of the excursion is ADA-accessible. Upon reaching the National Park, the tour takes place on a wide gravel path. Customers in wheelchairs have the option of staying at the visitor center during the second half of the tour.
Keep in mind, Sitka is a lush rainforest. Umbrellas are available to use during the tour, though we recommend you bring rain protection for the rest of your time in town. Wear shoes you are comfortable walking in for an hour.
