Juneau Glacier Flightseeing via Seaplane Tour | Same Day

Excursion Overview

Take to the skies on our 5-Glacier Flightseeing via Seaplane tour

Experience the thrill of taking off from the water with this Juneau floatplane excursion. Everyone will enjoy their own window seat while flying in a DeHaviland Otter seaplane over 5 glaciers. This is your chance to fly in what the locals refer to as an Alaskan water taxi!

Your floatplane takes off from the water right in downtown Juneau in front of the cruise ship terminal. You will see the city as you take off from the water while listening to the history of the mining era. Your pilot will take you over picturesque landscape toward the 1,500 square miles of Juneau Icefield. As you soar through the skies you'll fly over the ocean, rivers, and rainforest on your way to the glaciers that surround Juneau. Keep your eye out for thundering waterfalls, lush forest landscape, and wildlife roaming the mountain peaks! Possible sightings might include bear, moose, goats, and eagles.

As you approach the Juneau Icefield, you will fly over the highlight of this excursion, 5 magnificent glaciers! Though the icefield is massive, only 36 of the glaciers that comprise it are named, and far fewer are accessible. You will see the Norris, the Hole In The Wall, the East, the West, and the mightiest of them all, the Taku Glacier. Five miles wide at its base, the Taku Glacier is breathtaking, expanding, and well worth the wait.

After your journey through the sky with this Juneau seaplane tour, you will land smoothly back on the water of the Gastineau Channel, right back where you started. From here, it's an easy walk to the shops of downtown, your cruise ship, or to local eateries established on the waterfront.

The best time to book your tour is whatever time works best for you. There is no time of day that is consistently better than the other in terms of weather. Weather in Alaska is ever-changing and predicting the weather from month to month is nearly impossible.

The Tongass National Forest, an actual rainforest, makes up much of Southeast Alaska. We Alaskans have learned to appreciate the rain and never let it stop us do what we need to do. If it is otherwise safe and quality flying weather, we will fly in the rain. A little-known fact is that the rich blue hues in the glaciers are more vibrant to the eye on an overcast day.
